Help with my hair thread

Basically I have really thick hair. Not so much curly but thick! When it is long, most gels cant even tame it. When my hair is damp it looks really good and has a nice shape to it, however most gels,waxes either shiny or greasy and don't do much for me unless it is short.

Has anyone got any remedies to taming wild hair? Something that keeps it looking damp in particular

P.S Growing an afro is not an option! I
I will never straighten it

You could have it thinned. Or just shave the whole thing off.
