Is it safe to put a bricked card (death by ESD) in a live PC again?

I am not sure if it's dead or not but supposedly it is, and I would like to test it by putting it in my pc but I'm not sure if this would harm the mobo?

This thread made me chuckle.

OP how to you know its ESD as its not visible the damage the static causes?

It can blow the inside of a chip to smithereens, but there's no way of seeing it without a microscope...

I used to work for Pioneer so saw a few blown chips this way, it generally looked like a bomb had gone off in there.

I've tested a network card that was damaged by a power surge during an electrical storm on a couple of other motherboards without issue.

Of course as others have said there is a possibililty is could damage a healthy motherboard so if you at all worried best to err on the side of caution.

Because I was selling some cards to CEX and they tested them to see if they were working, one passed, they said the other didn't work, and said it was because of ESD.

I want to double check.

if a card is dead its not going to draw any power and if it did i doubt it will damage your board

ESD can reach Kv range and as electronics are only very low voltage normally blows it to bits so its probly safe to say that card has not died by ESD unless of course u run around in a shell suit

Silly question, perhaps, but did you not test them yourself before you took them in to that place?

Depending on which part was damaged it may damage/not damage the motherboard. Also if you often find yourself winning at Yahtzee your chances of not damaging the mobo increase a bit. And no, winning your money back at scratchcards does not increase your chances of not damaging the mobo, in fact your chances decrease directly in proportion to the amount of doublethink employed to justify that additional quid spent on said scratchcards. If, however, you have never played Yahtzee nor bought scratchcards mate you are better off not attempting it at all.
