Hi guys,

Does anyone know when to expect non-reference versions of these cards?

I've very close to buying one of these cards for a few weeks now but I just know a nice non-reference with beautiful cooling will be released as soon as I do (due to sodd's law) but is there any info on this at all?

Thanks,

Wu

Why would you want non referance cooling for the 570?

It's quiet and very cool by todays standards.

I'm sure it is but non reference cooling would be even better which would help OCing further or going SLI in the future....

EDIT: and I'm still undecided between the 6950/6970 and the 570 so....

Whatever floats your canoo, but it's vapur chamber cooling is very effective as is.

Fair enough but I've read that the 6900 can actually get quite warm (well warmer than expected) and when you look at things like the MSI Twin Frozr type cards - man they look awesome !!

So you would say dont bloody bother and don't worry about non-reference?

Yeah they do get rather warm, especially in cf, the frozr's do look good and a 6900 frozr would be a good idea but i don't really know if the extra cash for a 570 "Frozr" would be worth it.

Most non-reference coolers are made to reduce manufacturing costs rather than increase performance. Palit/Gainward are good examples of companies who do this.

The stock cooler of the GTX 500's is superb. They are most likely the best reference coolers ever made, and a superior third-party alternative will likely cost a lot of money to produce. The 6900 coolers seem to be cut down versions of NVidia's 500 design.

I just like to thank [WU-TANG]GZA for asking this as I've been thinking the exact same thing.
I keep thinking back the Gigabyte Super-OC cards. My understanding was that these cards used improved coolers to allow the higher overclocks. As good as the vapour chamber is (which I'm still sure will be upside down in my case, which can't help surely?) I think someone would come up with a better fan design to take it that bit further.
But if Gigabyte cooler and re-design of the card into a non-reference layout was just to make it cheaper and not to increase cooling/overclocking then I guess there's no reason to wait for a 570 version. Damn you Gigabyte, sucked me in again!
