Buying a new car.... Mitsubushi Outlander Elegance.

Well, I've had a few days now, and I really like it. I love the styling and space I have got with it.

It's fully loaded, electric adjustable heated leather seats, sat nav, music server with hard drive, air con with climate control, nine speakers with sub built in the side of the boot - the sound is full, crisp and very loud if you want it :)

The engine is a VW 2.0L TD. I'm averaging about 43 MPG at the moment. I would say the engine is a little weak, no big boy acceleration for me anymore.

I'm very pleased with the purchase, I owned a shogun before this and Mitsubishi really know how to build cars with those added extras and thought in mind.

I would give this car 4.5 / 5.

Same platform at that year as the Citroen C-Crosser and Pug 4007. Different engine though, Both Frenchies use the higher performance 2.2 HDi, the 2.0 is known to be a bit of a weak point ( performance wise, not reliability wise ) in the Outlander. The Mitsu is available with the 2.2 if you look around. Then again, you don't buy one of these and expect it to be quick. :)

All three get highly rated reviews. Reasonably rare on the roads and owners consider them to be "hidden gems".

Only thing I've heard speak of as far as issues go and this applies mainly to the 2.2 HDi engine variants is clutch slippage which can occur at random mileages including low'ish ones.

£19k - Could be room for manouver on that if you are keen on a haggle as the Outlander recently had a substantial facelift and update in late 2010.

Nice.

So did you buy it then, doesn't look like a set of dealers photos!!!. :D

Factory fit widescreen Satnav I see as well. Reverse camera too?.

I think that'll be worth about £5k in three years time. I can see spending £19k on that is going to be a whole world of pain come resell time!

Way of the mark.

2007 Outlanders atm are still commanding prices of anything between £12k - £15k, spec dependant.

Oooo Sir What nice big knobs you have.

Sweet You coming to the Pay & Play on Sunday then to wreck it. :D

How you finding it so far?. The Peugeot 4007 156 GT is on my list along with a few other possibles for a purchase after the New Year.

Without being bias, I just totally love everything about, the drive, driving position, all the gadgets that I do need and are very useful, the sound system is just out of this world - eight speakers and a sub woofer. Although, the manual for the sat nav/ music server is 300 pages, yikes.

That doesnt mean a 2010 Outlander will be worth £12-15k in 3 years time, though. This is where a cars position in its product lifecycle matters - something I often get flamed for suggesting. The Outlander was a new model in 2007, so the 3 year old versions are still a reasonably fresh sight on the road. They are also about as old as you can get.

In 3 years time, the Outlander will have been around for twice as long and there will be cars twice the age of a 3 year old example kicking around on on the used market which *will* drag the prices of the 3 year old ones down - the further on a car gets in its product lifecycle, the higher the supply of used cars in the market.

You can see this with most cars. Values hold up well until the first examples of the car begin to get 4+ years old, where you'll then find they begin to drag the overall used values down.

Yeah, I did buy it..they didn't want cash ? money laundering reasons

The law makes it hard (Infact, I think it makes it impossible?) for them to accept cash for amounts of £10k or more.

You can still pay over this by debit card, bank transfer or bankers draught, though.
