You are supposed to e-mail them to ask for a name change. I would laugh if they changed your username to "Trusty a few times with no luck" just as you requested.:D

Haha..As if! I was stumped when i could'nt log in, took me about 10 mins to realise i should check this thread. :p

that sort of thing would never happen here ;)

You scamp! :D

I have rubbed my OcUK issue magic lamp and am waiting for a Geniemin to arrange.

Generally I think the mods do a good job here, obviously the role is bound to attract a few ...socially weird... people but I think on the whole this forum is moderated well.

And here is the problem OCUK.
It doesn't matter what you and I think of a fictitious character but we have members who do believe in such stuff and it is against OCUK rules to insult them.

OK then, from tomorrow I shall follow the religion of rypt
My new religion shall state that it is insulting to all followers of rypt if other religions are even discussed

Does that mean that we cannot now discuss religion on this forum as it is against OCUK rules to insult me?

I think the mods can be a tad over-harsh but not in terms of moderating GD.

Generally the people with the problem are those who either:

a) Can't obey the rules, sling insults about and/or lose their temper and get punished for it, and cry a river as a result.
b) Don't agree with the general opinion in GD, so rather than accept that they're talking crap or that maybe people have differing opinions, come in threads like this shouting that the mods need to "protect GD from the horrible mean boys!!".

Seriously, is this what we've got to now? Can't get people to agree with you, so just label their opinion as "insulting" and get the rules bent? Dear oh dear.

You're now being childish.

The difference is I respect other peoples beliefs even if I think they are barking mad and I never insult them.
I'd rather see intelligent people debating with believers (and that includes posters who believe in Lizardmen, Aliens walking amongst us, 911 conspiracies and other such tat) who give excellent scientific arguments against their beliefs.
I have no time for people who just want to insult.

Woah... I want to change my vote from pancake to NO.

I didn't realise that so many people would vote yes?

What the **** is up with that?

I agree.

Over-moderation is a bad thing. The moderators should be here to remove blatantly offensive rubbish and step in when things go out of hand but outside of that it should be up to the community to moderate itself to a certain degree - ie when somebody posts something unacceptable and 10 people bite them for it, it's far more effective.

I've posted some properly daft stuff in my time. Some of it gets edited by a mod or I get suspended and I then forget about it. Some of it gets me an awful lot of backlash from a lot of people which REALLY makes me think 'Why did I post that?'. I remember the ridiculously insensitive thing I once posted in a thread about how people spend money on kids - the reactions I got from people I actually respect had far more of an effect on how I felt afterwards than some yellow text or a ban.

They are free to hold whatever belief they want, but I am not going to stop giving my opinion on their belief and am not going to change how, where, when, and why I do things.

EDIT: For instance, why should I not be allowed to post in the Ramadan thread that I'm going to go and have a nice bacon sarnie ... yet it is perfectly fine for me to post that in any other thread.

It's not a case of you not being allowed. It would be deliberately antagonistic, ie trolling.

Oops I voted yes by accident, switch mine to no please.

For example mathewhotdude homo threads, I end up getting banned for trying to make a scientific argument about homosexuality being wrong.

Woah woah woah I missed that one.

On one hand, I almost want to call you out and explain yourself. On the other, I don't want to derail the thread further.

Bound to be a classic response at any rate :p
