Hi,

I'm looking for a new headset to replace my current which' microphone has stopped working. I'd prefer usb with a decent cable length. I've looked at the Raptor H3 and the Corsair though i'm still undecided on if I'd even go for those.

My budget's £50 - 70 (can go a little over)

Any advice would be appreciated.

^^ I can't take any review seriously that has this to say about the Plantronics Gamecon:

"Music sounded nicely balanced, with a clear separation between the instruments, meaning we could happily to listen to an album or two on them without any problems."

I have a pair here and music on them is shockingly bad.

EDIT: They really really should have reviewed the 163s IMO tho expensive the sound quality more than makes up for it and brings games alive in a way you'd never get from a £50 pair of logitechs, creative, corsair, razer or steelseries.

Oh dear - well you never know, maybe the steelseries are good. Maybe OP read different reviews about them if you are interested

The steelseries are pretty decent for gaming, tho wouldn't be my winner. But I can't believe my eyes seeing that quote about the plantronics as they really are not good for music the bass is way too "boomy" and tho mid-range is quite good the high end is very weak.

I would recommend the Steelseries PC350, but they are a little over budget. Therefore, try looking up the PC330 version, which can be had for £70 on a well known internet retailer. :D

They are similar to the PC350s (which are brilliant) but cheaper and, in my opinion, don't look quite as good.

I would recommend getting a good pair of dedicated headphones, then add a headphone amp then just buy a desktop mic or clip on mic.

The sound from a good pair of headphones will be a lot better than a "gaming headset"

The mics on a gaming headset are normally really cheap.

I probably should have said I needed a headset with a microphone. I've looked at the steelseries but there isn't one with a microphone.

All steelseries headsets have a microphone... Otherwise they are just headphones, which they don't make.

I assume you mean Sennheiser, not Steelseries?

Is what they say in that gamespot reviews about the Sennheiser 360's true? I've only heard good things about the 350's and would have assumed the 360's would be slightly better.

This man talks the truth

For your consideration:

I dislike having the microphone piece on the headphones, so run them seperately.

I use a Logitech Desktop Microphone USB. (ocuk don't sell these)
I get great reports on the recording quality.

Plus a set of headphones, which you may already have.
I'm currently using some Sennheiser RS180 which kinda break the bank. (ocuk don't sell these)
Before that I used Sony MDR-XD100 which were great too. (ocuk don't sell these)

£8.49 Sony MDR-XD100
£16.50 Logitech USB Desktop Microphone
£24.99 Total
