Samsung Galaxy S reset?

Google suggests:

Shut your Android Galaxy S down (Power off) or remove Battery.
Now press Volume up, Home and Power together.
If the Samsung Symbol is comming up leave the Home Button.
Then there is a boot Menu
Volume Up and Down to Navigate , Home to select the choosen option.

Tried go after go. Menu doesn't come up.

Don't really want to wait another day for the guy to reply.

Any chance I can do this via a PC?

Try volume up + home + power with the battery out, then put the battery back in with them still held down. Can need a third hand. Other than that find the Samsung ADB drivers (SDK kit should have them) and if the guy left it in debugging mode you may be able to use the 'adb reboot recovery' command from a dos prompt in the ADB directory. Then factory reset.

If all else fails there is a way of using a micro usb plug to force the phone into download mode and flash a new firmware.

Got kies to recognize the phone (updated firmware) but couldn't get adb. I think debugging is disabled :(

The seller isn't responding to my emails (did have 50 positive feedbacks thought!), so I've reported him.

You managed to update it with Kies? Kies does leave settings in
place. Are you still stuck? Easy enough to force the download mode with a resistor, then flash with Odin which will wipe all settings. Have you tried download mode? Of course you have, just asking

Call me a chicken, but I don't want to take the route with the possibility of a brick. Don't have the tools anyways. I see what ebay say. Guessing there isn't any other way?

wrong with them. hope yours is ok

Can you get into download mode? Volume down + menu + power ?

Maybe you can just flash clean firmware with Odin?

Frankly it's a bit of a dud anyway, even if you did get past the lock screen. Without the working three button combo you'd be at great risk to do any updates. If I received a new one without a working recovery/download I'd consider it faulty. There are a few like that and you have to mess about flashing bootloaders to fix it.

3-Button Combo FiX for Selected/ALL Firmwares
Get Download Mode without 3-button combo using homemade JIG

btw, small adb package for getting into download mode, won't work without debugging > adbDownload.zip

In case you didn't see this thread on xda > Pattern Lock - Unlocking without 3-button combo

I also have a Galaxy S and it suffers from the same missing three-button problem, so basically it's not possible to get it into download mode to update it without using a special jig gadget. Worse, mine's now got a black screen and has died and I've been waiting for a month for the supplier to fix it. If you still can, I'd try and send it back as without download mode, you'll not be able to update it to Froyo or beyond.
