I've been toying with the idea of getting a MBP for a while now, and I see Apple have just introduced 0% finance on the store.......tempting!!

But I see there are a few rumours for the 2011 MBPs, so I'm torn between getting one now or wait.

The specs I would get are:

15" i7 2.66Ghz
128GB SSD
High Res anti glare screen (for photography work)

I've read the new MBPs are likely to include the new Sandy Bridge processors, and have SSD as standard.

Now the specs I'm choosing, it seems the new laptops won't be a huge upgrade - which is why im in a bit of a pickle.

So thoughts on this would be great? Anyone took the plunge and got a MBP recently?

There will always be the threat of upgrades making your new one look old (horrible feeling till you give your mac a hug and go actually what I have is still awesome)

That said if you can wait till feb-ish and see what sandy bridge looks like that could be a sensible move (would love to see what mobile sb looks like and if apple jump for it as my c2d is going to show its age in a year to 18 months)

Good points, but still a MBP i7 is still a pretty powerful tool, and should still last a couple of years or so comfortably. If SSD was being introduced soon, then I'd wait, but as I would be getting one anyway I'm not as fussed as I would be otherwise.

Cheers

One last thing....

Would you recommend that I get the SSD from factory? Or buy a MBP with a 5400rpm HDD then replace with a better SSD?

I've heard that the SSDs apple use aren't the best, not saying they're poor, but you can get better SSDs.

Thanks

I would wait until January/February and see if there's an update.

Also, don't buy an SSD from apple. It's very easy to swap, just get a Vertex 2e or Intel SSD from here, it's much, much cheaper (and quicker). :)

Yeh I was looking at the Vertex 2E or Crucial C300.

I assume installing the new drive is as simple as:

Remove old drive
Install new drive
Boot from OSX DVD
Install new operating system
Enjoy

That easy?

id say you will be ok with the 15"

id never buy a 13" at the moment though , in need of a big update to be worth the cash they cost imo

any sign of apple and bluray making friends yet ?

The 13" isn't that bad with an SSD, the 15" isn't as portable. It depends what you want.
I bought the 15" mid range i5 and sent it back to apple 3 days later because it was too heavy to carry around for hours every day.

As for apple and blu-ray there was never an issue. Apple just don't want to include them. They say it's because they don't want to charge their customers for a tech that hasn't taken off in mobile computing but everyone know that it's because it would hurt iTune movie sales. :p
