is 2012 actually going to happen ?

Well, throughout History we have not really relied on Electricity like we do now as an almost absolute Energy source, it is a very recent event, so saying look at the History makes no sense, how many of these Sun Cycles have we been through since using Electricity in such a way? How do we know that previous activity would not have obliterated our current infrastructure and we have only been 'lucky' so far by missing the big Flares...

This is the statement from NASA's website that you wrote the above in reply to:

Solar activity has a regular cycle, with peaks approximately every 11 years. Near these activity peaks, solar flares can cause some interruption of satellite communications, although engineers are learning how to build electronics that are protected against most solar storms. But there is no special risk associated with 2012. The next solar maximum will occur in the 2012-2014 time frame and is predicted to be an average solar cycle, no different than previous cycles throughout history.

"satellite communications" does not mean the same thing as "Electricity".

Even if it did (and it definitely doesn't) we've been making extensive use of electricity for longer than the last 10 years.

I only used that quote as it claimed 'History Shows', my point being, Electricity as a resource is far too young to be used as an example of 'History', Satellite technology is even younger! The Earth is 4.5Billion Years old, Electricity use as we know it is around 100Years old, Satellites are around 60Years old, if they are 10 Year Cycles, then Satellites have only been around for 6 Cycles, our 'Power Grid' for around 10. So, the Earth itself has experienced around 450,000,000 Cycles, 10 and 6 Cycles doesn't even make a dent in it.

Yup the world will end in 2012, humanity, as we know it, will cease to exist (about damn time too, I am hard pushed to think of a less deserving species to be on the planet).

Its the main reason why I wasn't bothered about Russia and Qatar getting the world Cups, as they arent going to happen and we still get to have the last big global sporting event before the end of days :)

You really do have to be a bit on the dumb side to think the world will end in 2012 over some calendar finishing and other BS.

It's always a laugh reading this subject on these forums. Time and time again, people will continually post their biased, conspiracy links claiming them to be fact, whilst disregarding the NASA links which state nothing devastating will happen. It's also annoying seeing the armchair scientists think they can argue and disprove the stuff NASA scientists have said, as seen in this very thread.

Wake up, idiots.

Quote from Nasa site

Question (Q): Are there any threats to the Earth in 2012? Many Internet websites say the world will end in December 2012.

Answer (A): Nothing bad will happen to the Earth in 2012. Our planet has been getting along just fine for more than 4 billion years, and credible scientists worldwide know of no threat associated with 2012.

:mad::mad: oh well

LoL... have you bought your tin foil hat?

To avoid the 2012 disasters.. the governments have all agreed that 2012 will be skipped. 2011 will be followed by 2011b, followed by 2013. So no 2012 wont happen.. the disasters still might but 2012 definately wont happen :p
