is 2012 actually going to happen ?

To avoid the 2012 disasters.. the governments have all agreed that 2012 will be skipped. 2011 will be followed by 2011b, followed by 2013. So no 2012 wont happen.. the disasters still might but 2012 definately wont happen :p

13's an unlucky number so they'll have to skip that one too. :p

Err.. that's the US.. it would surprise me if the UK hasn't even thought about it.

Considering how our entire economy relies totally on the availability of electricity and that this could easily but cut off if the sun were to have a hissy fit, I doubt the fact that it has never come up in conversation.

The US plan to use data from spacecraft/satellites to calculate where/when on the surface of Earth there would be large spikes in power so that they can disconnect transformers in that area applies to us too.

It's not like it hasn't happened before, some of the reports on NASAs website even say the UK has had transformers knocked out by flares in the past. It seems like some people are confusing a solar maximum with a storm, just because there is a maximum around 2012 doesn't mean there's going to be a ridiculous solar storm and we are all going to die.

I think some terrorist thing will happen at the london olympics 2012, and it will kick off WW3 and everyone will die.

Thought Id create this thread as solid discussion with facts and opinions, im getting rather nervous and scared. Been researching and found some stark information, NASA claims we will have a solar storm in 2012, now i know the film really went over board and i believe it desensitized a lot of us and made us think the whole concept is make believe.

What do you think ?

Discuss.

There is nothing to worry about. These so called Super Solar Storms appear every 11-13 years. So it's no big deal and it will hardly affects us on any noticeable scale. The world coming to an end in 2012 is all a big hoax for idiots that actually believe anything that's fed to them.

one would have to also point out that solar activity has yet to pick up since its lowest point in 2008. Which would explain the global cooling we are going through the last 2 years.

Well for the electricity, if I was NASA, I would tell them to shut down the power grid when the storm is detected by sat. before it hit the earth, we have 8 mins. from the sun to here at light speed. So if people are paying attention, we can maybe avoid it.

There was a documentary on National Geographic the other day about the Mayan prophecy, I only caught the last 10mins but their angle was the long count calendar tracked larger cycles in the Earth's climate and that 2012 may be the start of a new ice age or something to that affect.

I doubt the Mayan long count calendar was made as a joke but I don't buy into the end of the world scenarios.

But even if electrical things are shut down, the equipment still gets it? If my computer is turned off, it's still going to get fried ain't it? That would be assuming this super storm even happens....

These electrical storms happen all the time we seem to cope fine normally.

Wow.. In the early 80's we loved Solar storms... GREAT for sidebanding !!
