PCI-Express power cable question

I got a new graphics card for Christmas, my old one uses 1 6 pin PCI power, this one needs two, sadly my PSU only has one direct 6 pin connection, however, the graphics card did come with 2 cables, both of which look like this.

Do I need to connect both of the white ends to the PSU via a 4 pin connection or just one and the other is an out so something else can be connected in a chain?

What PSU have you got may I ask and what card have you got? You need to use two molex (2 x 4 pins).

I have the MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 Twin FrozR II 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-103-MS

My PSU is a bit old, and I'm not sure I have more than 1 spare molex pin white female plug. It is a Antec NeoPower 550W Modular PSU purchased 4 years ago.

I have done a crude drawing to display my question. I am guessing number two is correct.

I have 4 hard drives in the machine, two of which are not really used any more, I guess if I can't find another female molex plug if I need two I could disconnect one and use that plug?

You will need both molex coming from the PSU to go into the PCI Express adapter so the 2nd picture.

The odd thing is, I have a sapphire and one of the MSI twin Frozr ones.

The sapphire comes with PCI-E - Molex adaptors, which only have a single molex plug, not two like the MSI. I have the sapphire connected up using two of those, with the MSI using the two PCI-E plugs from the PSU.

Why do the Saphire and MSI cards require different numbers of molex plugs?
