evening,

anyone know the main differences between these two processors? apart from about £50 in price.

im looking to upgrade my i3 as my mobo and ram are built to support i5/i7 cpus (asus p7p55d-e, corsair dominator ddr3 1600c9)

many thanks :p

£50?? That's surprising. The only difference is the stock speed - 2.66GHz for the older 750 vs 2.8GHz for the 760. That also means the 760 allows a 1 higher multiplier (22 vs 21) so may help at the extreme end of overclocking. In practice you can get 4GHz with the 750 no problem with a 20 multiplier as I have, so your not going to be restricted with a 750. In short, no real difference at all.

A 760 is £145 here, so if you've found a 750 for closer to £100, snap it up fast.

OC headroom is supposedly the same for both. The only difference between the two is the higher multiplier on the 760. The difference is so small you should get whichever you can find cheaper.

So the 750 is the entry level i5? i see you have yours at 4GHz. i guess that would out perform the 760 at stock levels and save some money. i'll order one.

what cooler are you using if i may ask? i have a arctic cooler 7. should be ok for a low overclock.

i5 750 currently running @ 3.9 with a Thermaltake Frio cooling it.

Temps at idle are around 25-28 Degrees, and full load max temp is just under 60 degrees, normally about 58.

Brilliant CPU for the cash, i was lucky i got mine from ebay for £112 :)

I got the 760 and got it to 4.4Ghz with some water.

My i5 750 has been running 4.4ghz on air since about a week after release.... Never given me any problems at all.

I highly recommend them.

What sort of voltages are you guys running for that. 4Ghz was easy with my 760 but getting it higher is proving to be tricky.

Entry level quad i5. There are cheaper i5's but they've got a number that begins with 6, and they're just dual cores with hyperthreading.
