is 2012 actually going to happen ?

Something catastrophic is current in the process.

There is a HUGE BLACK HOLE in the middle of our galaxy slowly swallowing everything up.

We are slowly going to get closer to the Andromeda galaxy and then will collide into this resulting in a mess!

And apparently, all galaxies, or ones nearby are all moving towards one cluster for some reason, apparently due to black holes.

When i read that i had tron soundtrack playing it was epic.

LMAO

We can only hope.

This! How can they possibly predict this? If it does happen and what they've predicted is correct then i'll take my hat off. For now though, i'll take my chances and not get anxious!

Something catastophic will occur in 2012, but we will not be aware of it.

Lol, my goldfish might die in 2012, that WILL be catastrophic! ;)

So far every apocayptic prophecy has turned out false. Based on that evidence I suspect 2012 won't happen. The solar activity isn't gonig to happen to 2013. Anything about earth polarity switching is rubbish, it takes about 10K years to switch over and wouldn't affect us anyway.

The people pushing the 2012 ******** are all selling books. You tell me, do you think they're more interested in scientific method or selling books?

It's all rubbish.

Edit : Oh and the Mayan calendar has 360 days. It doesn't predict an apocalypse, it just stops in 2012, I would guess because they hadn't planned so many centuries ahead. Basing the end of the world on a primitive civilisation who couldn't even get the number of days in a year right is pretty pointless :)

Thought Id create this thread as solid discussion with facts and opinions, im getting rather nervous and scared. Been researching and found some stark information, NASA claims we will have a solar storm in 2012, now i know the film really went over board and i believe it desensitized a lot of us and made us think the whole concept is make believe.

What do you think ?

Discuss.

I think that you should realise there are far more worrying things that will affect you in life and that they do - as opposed to your nonsense - actually exist.

Oh and btw, reading abovetopsecret and all the other crazy tinfoil hat sites does not constitute 'researching'.

LOL.. indeed!

What makes me laugh, similar to the book sales quote further up the thread, is that all these sites that are predicting impending doom are generally covered in adverts/selling stuff or ask for subs and donations etc! Now if they truly believe in the end of the world... why bother? Money won't be much use when we've all been fried by a solar storm!.

Unless they're planning to pay for the mother of all apocalypse parties.. and need the cash upfront for the entertainment! :p

There was a documentary on National Geographic the other day about the Mayan prophecy, I only caught the last 10mins but their angle was the long count calendar tracked larger cycles in the Earth's climate and that 2012 may be the start of a new ice age or something to that affect.

I doubt the Mayan long count calendar was made as a joke but I don't buy into the end of the world scenarios.

Well, that's some new rubbish. Woo.

You could argue that any time after the middle of a warm period is the start of an ice age. Or, if you're being really picky, that there's an ice age every year - winter.

There's an important point regarding the Mayan long count calendar that all the doomsday merchants conveniently ignore - it's tied to the Mayan religion. If you aren't a follower of the Mayan religion, the count means nothing to you. It's like a claim that something will happen when a calendar counting years from the birth of Thor reaches a certain value - it can only matter to you if you're a follower of the appropriate religion.
