Hi, i recived my d2 today but its not fitting into my pci slots. Its a rampage III extreme. The pci slots seem different and it doesnt fit as there is an overhang. Has anyone got any idea if the one with the express slot will work ? or even another pci card that would be as good.

Thanks

Assuming you have this motherboard, the only slot you can use for the D2 is the black one near the bottom of the board (2nd slot up). It won't work in any other of the slots, but what would work is the D2X (PCI-E version of your card), which would work in any of the slots aside from the one that the D2 will work in.

How can it not fit? Unless you have been putting it in the red PCIE slots. The fact you said it's not fitting into the PCI slots seem to suggest that, as there is only one slot it will fit in. As Phil said, the long black one

its a pci-e slot, i thought pci-e slots were a lot smaller. The pci slot is covered by the graphics card which made me think the others were normal pci slots.

PCIE comes in various sizes. 1x 4x 8x and 16x which are used for GFX cards. If you have your GFX card in the slot covering the PCI slot, why? Unless you have 3 GFX cards?

If you have 3 cards then you're only option really is to make do without either the sound or 3rd graphics card. If you don't have 3 then move it (graphics card) up to one of the other slots.

Not true,
You can use all of the 1x 4x 8x 16x for you soundcard,i use my bottom x8 for mine,Asus Extreme Rampage 2 motherboard and a Asus Xonar D2 7.1 PCI-E Sound Card.

You didn't read my post correctly. I said PCIE comes in various sizes. Nowhere did I say a PCIE sound card will only fit in the 1x slot.

I did read it and you said"PCIE comes in various sizes. 1x 4x 8x and 16x which are used for GFX cards"

Its the used for GFX cards bit that is wrong,as that statement only means that GFX cards and nothing else will work in the PCI-E slots.

This thread is getting a bit confusing,
This is what i can gather from the infomation given.

Chris has a Asus Rampage Extreme 3 motherboard.
Chris has a PCI soundcard.
GFX card in PCI-E x16#3 slot covers PCI slot.
answer=move GFX card to PCI-E x16 #1 or #2 so GFX card wont cover up PCI slot.
Unless like someone else mentioned it cant be done if you are using 3 GFX cards.
well it can be depending on how many expansion slots you have in your pc case, which you would atleast need 8.

Ah, I think I know where you are coming from. I should have worded that slightly different. I meant the 16x slot is used for GFX's, not 1x 4x 8x and 16x are used for GFX cards.
