Might place a big-ish DVD order soon, and I'm after a few recommendations. I'm a big fan of world cinema, although I haven't seen an awful lot - I like films where I learn something new or have my eyes opened to something I didn't know about beforehand.

I can't think of any direct examples, as they escape me at this late hour...but I'd appreciate any suggestions if you have any ideas what I might like!

Backdoor lesbians vol II.

A brilliant ground breaking film. Set in torrid times during the current recession, two platinum blonde and busty students are struggling to pay their rent. Their bills are piling up...and yeah somebody else finish this..

You're having trouble finishing? :)

It was just full of holes, no plot whatsoever. I don’t think there will be a Vol III.

There was a similar thread a while back, here.. Lots of good recommendations there.

Two that I really like are:

Into The Wild
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly (French, so subtitled)

Thanks, I'll check out that thread, and your suggestions.

Will look into that, thanks.

Trainspotting
City Of God

Maybe more will spring to mind later on!

Seen both of those - exactly what I'm looking for though :)

Seen this, thought acting was quite poor.

Clockwork Orange is very eye opening.

I've been recommended this before, but never had a chance to see it - I'll check it out :) Would it be wise to read the book beforehand?

A Prophet (French, amazing)
Generation Kill (7 part HBO tv series which is amazing about the Iraq war)
Battle of Algiers
Mulholland Drive (well any David Lynch)
The Road (although the book is better)
