Been playing a lot of Fifa 11 online and seemed to be playing against the best players in the world. They rip through my defence like it wasn't there. Are able to take the ball off me with ease. Can dribble the ball like theres glue on their feet... and can do fancy tricks with ease.

Problem #1:
My main problem is my defence. My back 4 never hold their line and make it easy for the other team to break through. When ever I attack, the other teams defence stays solid and I can never get through. What am I doing wrong?

Problem #2:
How do I keep the ball? I can't seem to control the ball and the other guy never has a problem taking it from me but when I ever I try and take the ball off of him, the ball seems stuck to his feet. What gives? I thought holding L2 was control? I usually play 4-5-1 with Man U and Rooney up on his own seems to be my best tactic. My biggest win was 3-0 against Real Madrid but the other guy wasn't that good.

Problem #3:
When ever I have the ball, the other team closes me down really quickly and I have no time to look for a pass. When ever the other team has the ball, they seem to have the entire pitch to pass. Even If I hold circle and x to close them down, it never seems to work as well.

I like this game but my god it gives me the rage like no other game I have ever played.

I love it. Theres quite a big learning curve with Fifa.

Say your running right to left towards a defender. Make sure your jogging as your approaching the defender then press up and then left, Timing has to be perfect and you can most of the time get round a defender. Online is harder with the lag and you have to accomadate that.

Be unpredictable too.

Up on the d-pad?

I get most of my goals from running down the left with Giggs and doing a low cross fro Rooney to head it in. Thats been my main tactic. I rarely ever get goals going square on at goal.

It's exactly the same for me when playing clubs.

My team leaves huge gaps in defence, every rebound goes to them and i think i only concede 1 out 15 goals that are actually good and not from a stupid a.i **** up.

The more i play it, the more flaws i see.

The main issue, is the AI, it's completely damn terrible, especially defence.

I only ever play online, now i am a good player my ranking tells me that, but each time i play this game less and less due to such terrible flaws.

defending for me is about managing and containment. i'll let him have possession and just mark guys he tries to pass to.

most of the time high pressure works but if you are playing against a skillful tricks player (rare) that doesnt work as well and they can get round your defence. I play more possession and backwards passing with them.

I've no issues and win many games.

Blaming the computer defense going awol when mostly the player just isn't very good :)
I disagree, I'm sure some of the PS3 players wouldn't say I was a terrible player by any stretch of the imagination, but when I used to play this game there were so many incidents of your opponent simply abusing glitches or CPU mistakes that it was hardly worth playing. Online clubs is the worst for this as you watch your opponents play 40 yard through balls while your idiotic defence just stands there and watches the ball roll past them or over their heads.

Just beat Bayern Munich 3-2.

End of first half was 0-0 . He had 7 shots and all were on target while I had 0 shots.

Second half he went up 2-0 then I got 2 lucky breaks in the last ten minutes and scored. Third goal he tried showing off with his keeper and it backed fired and I was able to tackle him to allow an open goal to score the winner. He disconnected before the final whistle.

4-5-1 is too one dimensional imo, it's too easy to stop one striker on his own!

4-2-2-2 is my preferred formation (as Man Utd) - Nani and Valencia can come inside and provide width, Rooney and Berba up top. Hargreaves and Fletcher are awesome at CDM :D Haven't lost a game with it yet(Bar a penalty shootout - I'm terrible at pens!)

#1 - Try changing the team mentality to defensive, seems to make the defenders sit further back.

#2 - If you can't dribble around players, use 1-2 passing (L1+Pass) and lofted throughballs to get through defences.

#3 - Don't be afraid to pass it backwards or sideways, have to be a lot more patient in FIFA11 compared to previous versions!

Tried the 4-1-2-1-2 formation and beat Real Madrid 2-1.

Works. I also played defense through the entire match instead of changing it all the time to attack , balance, attack, defense ect. Worked much better sticking to one setting.

I managed to score my two goals by counter attacking him. Scored probably my best goal ever. Good passing, managed some skill then crossed it in for Berba to hit it on the half volley.

How do I save goals? I wanted to show that one off. I must have did 15 or so passes. Was really pleased with that.

Then I tried 4-2-2-2 and got beat 3-0 by Chelsea. :/

;)

I played a hell of a lot of FIFA over the last few years until I got fed up with the amount of gameplay flaws.

The thing that annoys me the most is offside in this game. If a forward is offside and you head the ball to an onside player, its off side. Laaaaaame.

Another thing, how do I get the player I am passing to to run to the ball instead of just standing there? The other team also runs to the ball and takes it from me.

You don't. Hence the wonders of PES.

But I've seen the other team do it. When ever I do a long pass, my player just stands there and the other team can just run in and take it. Do I have to take control of the player I am passing to and run to the ball myself?

I actually liked PES over FIFA for pretty much since the SNES days but Fifa 11 is just really good. Haven't played PES11 but I remember playing PES10 online and the players on there being god like. In Fifa, I can sometimes do pretty well... In PES, I never stood a chance.

Create a custom tactic and formations under edit team and use those online.

Pressure 1-100- 100 being that players hold a high line up the pitch
Aggression 1-100- 100 being players run after the player on the ball

I have both of these set to 1 seems to work the best to try and stop the lobbed through balls.
