Hi, I have been offered my friends old Acer 5735 laptop for £140 and im wondering if it is worth the money for occasional browsing/watching films at work and as a data logger/mapping tool for my car.

I believe the specs are:
T5800
3Gig of ram (It may have shown 4 in bios but I cant remeber but is running vista basic)
160gig HDD
15.6" screen

would this run win7? and it worth the money over a netbook for example?
I have never owned a laptop so have very little clue about them.

Its an ok laptop in my opinion, though the hard drives seem to be a common failure for some reason. Not much else goes wrong with them, but dc socket is relatively weak so try to avoid knocking it.

Should run win 7 no problem at all.

Are the HDDs easy to swap?

Should be a case of matching the same size HDD, generally 2.5" SATA's and then just "swapping" them around, doesnt take long. also upgrading the ram is easy, unless the laptop can only support 3GB max? maybe look into that.

And it should run Window 7 with ease, 3GB/4GB of ram and a cpu is all it near enough needs, if it can run on 2GB ram and be W7 starter (downgrade version i know) then it will work on this.
