Inspired by Jonny69 - A year in your parking space, 2010

Started the year with this.

Got his baby all working great, then did this to it. Lots of work needed to do getting it working again!

Then I had a baby, so before all the snowy madness happened, I traded the Fiesta in for something a bit more practical for a family.

Oh and the missus still has her...

Is this not what the motorsforum.co.uk is for.... :p

Started the year with the same two crap cars I have had for the past 5 years. Ended the year with them too.

We are getting rid of both crap cars after the New Year and I have a list of possible crap car purchases that I'm going to be looking at. So in this instance, I'll have to revisit a similar thread in 12 months time and then I'll have some pics of the new ones. :)

2006 Cayenne Tubo, remapped mad 4x4.

Then a facelift Cayenne S. Bit slower than the turbo.

Then i semi retired and decided i owed it to myself :D

Bentey GT, best every day car iv ever driven.

Mulliner GT to start the new year.

front-2.jpg

Few others but i never intended to drive them every day.

Nice car, shame about the plate! :p

Neil.

Definitely. I wouldn't drive over to Germany to those plates, no only will you get laughed a lot but you'll be pulled over with the 'D' on them when they clearly aren't German (apart from the font). ;)

Then I had a baby

That must have hurt!!

I started the year with this...

This...

And this...

Bought the Coupe (bottom picture) as a runabout when I took the green 400 off the road for some work. Seriously missed the power so bought the red 400 as a shell and dropped an engine into it.

When that was sorted and running well, the Coupe was sold to Phate and I'm left with both 400s, the green one still a work in progress.

Cheers for the feedback on the plate, I always liked it but it obviously isn't the "in" thing to do! Good job I kept the original dealer plate, I'll bung it back on! :)

It's odd, but I've seen worse. At least you haven't got the faux tax stickers on there too :p

No change here. Started and finished with the same C2S. Daily driver and hasnt let me down yet. I even had to venture out in some fairly bad snow equipped with jumnp leeds as the missus left her lights on at work.
Costs wise (~£1000 for warrenty, £50 for MOT and ~£600 for a set of rear tyres).

My next car will probably be slow/cheap/sensible and comfy.:D

I'm famous :)

The year started off something like this:

IMG_5366.JPG

I came down and remembered I hadn't put any antifreeze in and it was frozen solid. I took the belt off and ran it for a minute or two, left it to thaw out and put it all back together.

Around August time I found the motivation to pull the Anglia engine apart, to pop it back together for the winter and start some work on the hotrod. I found this in the bottom end:

Oh dear. Not unexpected though. While it was in having the crank reground I got the engine place to put in a new set of valve guides. They screwed up my crank and four months later they still have my head, unfinished, which I'm VERY annoyed about now. I put a standard engine in the car last week but double-checked on another forum about a part that I didn't think was fitting properly, so the engine has to come back out.

It was actually the straw that broke the camel's back with this car. It used to be a relaible daily driver for me but it's turned into one engine change after another and I've had enough of it. It's off to its new owner in a few weeks.

So long. It's been a long, now very bitter, 10 years.

Well I started and ended the year with my Volvo C30

IMG_1489.jpg

In terms of an everyday car for me it has been very good. The only costs it has had are servicing (£280) and all the usual tax etc... It returns about 50mpg (when driven normally :p) and is very comfortable. That said, I am thinking about changing it as it just isn't a fun car to drive. The steering is dull and it isn't really that fast at all. So I'm on the look out for an FD2 once I have a bit of cash saved up.

Also in June I purchased my '68 Triumph GT6 Mk1

IMG_1549.jpg

That car has been a joy to own. It brings a smile to my face every time i start it up. It isn't cheap to run compared with my C30 but I never expected it to be. So far I have

  • Replace the rear leaf spring
  • Replaced the radio with a genuine 60's unit (Which had FM on as standard)
  • Re-trimmed the centre console
  • Replaced the handbrake cable
  • Refitted new locks throughout the car
  • Swapped the number plates for some proper black as silver ones (This totally transformed the car)
  • Refurbished the front triumph logo badge

There is still quite a bit of work to do on it to get it perfect. I will have to get the paint work looked at as there are quite a few chip on it . I will also need the head skimmed and have the valve seats redone so it can run on unleaded fuel as it is starting to develop a slight misfire at 3500 rpm (around 29 seconds into the video below) . All in all though it is a fantastic little car. It sounds amazing (see clip below), has great handling (if you're careful) and for shear driving pleasure I don't think it will ever be beaten for me, I just can't ever see myself selling it.

Started with this:

1999 Honda Civic Sport (1.4), bought in 2007 for £2200.
and after almost 3 years of good ownership sold it fo £1200 for:

2004 Toyota Celica T Sport (1.8) in Storm Blue at £6100. More grin-inducing. Love it.
