Do you believe in prophecy?

Have you ever dreamt something that then happened the next day? How is this possible? In some ways its a clouded preview of your experience in which you have no impact on the real world. Surely prophecy works in a similar way and is thus equally possible?

I know I'll get slated for mentioning this kind of thing but at least its interesting. What really entertains me about this place is if its not explainable by science its not real. Quite sad really as it limits your miind, but anyway.. :)

Sometimes there are coincidences, and by making judgements before them we can call them pretty well.

Sometimes we can make predictions about sport by using our brains. I had a feeling that England would batter Australia (as they're doing now) for lots of reasons: our team's better, their 'best' are very out of form, Ponting looked very nervous at the toss and in interview etc. etc.

But random predictions using no knowledge are only right by luck not by any design so no I don't believe in prophecy.

When i played Inline hockey as a kid i thought to my self on the way to a a game "I should probably stop playing this soon before i break an arm or something"

I then broke my arm pretty badly that game =/

Stuff like this always happens to me, it's a bit like déjà vu sometimes were you could have sworn you've been in the exact some position before but can't fully recall it. For example, yesterday (26th) I looked up some cake recipes as i wanted to bake a cake. The next morning, i wake up and my mum's baked the exact cake i looked up. It's freaky but I'm a firm believer that it's all coincidence and, to put it lightly, **** just happens.

So you reckon it's just intuition and not prediction. Never dreamt something unexpected that cropped up the next day?

Not the next day, but has happened a couple of times that it popped up many years later.

When I was in bed some years ago in India and had a dream where i'm walking next to this building and talking with some swedish guy (no, I don't remember why I thought he was swedish) and woke up wondering how random that was.

Fast forward 3-4 years later, i'm in london (when I had the dream, had no idea whatsoever that I would be in London at any time in the future) walking next to my uni and talking to a swedish friend and suddenly while walking, that dream I had years ago popped into my head and I was wondering how something like that was even possible.

Instances like that have happened a few times, though that is one which has stuck in my head.

(not to say I believe in prophecy etc., though I have a few mixed feelings about that, but how something this random occurs, does astound me.)

Another way of looking at it would be to compare it to time travel, which is possible, at least into the future anyway. We just can't control it. So for example, a 'prophet' could, in his prophecising dream like state travel forwards in time, witness the experience, and then document it.

This is my take on it :)
Say in your dream state you taped into the future and had a vision of what was to come.
In saying that, your belief could be said that our future is now mapped out for us - fate.
If fate was real then its pretty much making life in its self worthless. To put it bluntly - Why should i strive to be the best i can when fate has already mapped out a meaningless life for me.
What i'm saying is life is random, you make your own future, without that then its one hell of a pointless journey.

Every choice you have ever made in life has led to you to reading this post. Not some ones idea for your life.

I dreamt one night that I wasn't going to win the lottery the following day when I bought a lottery ticket. I bought my ticket next day, and guess what I didn't win. Sometimes my dreams are amazing.

So your fear of not being in control interferes with your belief on the topic? Not very objective. I don't believe in fate, though I do think certain things are meant to happen. Why would 'fate' make your life meaningless? If you derive meaning through events or achievements as opposed to building and maintaining relationships then I can understand a little more.

I did this too, haha! My dream got the numbers wrong. :)
