Audio stops when TV turns off

Hi all

Hopefully someone has a quick fix for this but I have my HTPC set to turn the monitor off after a couple of minutes (due to it being a Plasma) and when this happens the audio cuts out as well. I correlated this to the fact its running over HDMI and the reciever (Yamaha RX-V765) must detect that there is no video signal and so turns off the input? Any way around this that you know of? Or is it a setting on the PC side?

Any help is appreciated! :)

Wire up an Optical or Coax or even stereo phonos from the HTPC to the amp.

Thanks for the input but I'm looking for a solution as opposed to a workaround. I cant be the only person in the world who turns their monitor (TV) off and wants music to carry on playing without needing to use extra cabling.

Could you not just manually turn off your tv leaving the HTPC outputting audio/video an then the av receiver will carry on as normal? Or do you need it to cut video output automatically?

This is an option, I just tested it and it works. Would ideally like it to be automatic but this is a solution I can live with. I assume this means the "fault" lies at the HTPC end, since its the one cutting the video signal and I guess the audio signal at the same time?

It seems so. If it is to save the plasma screen (though I think burning is a thing of the past) you might be able to put a screen saver on the HTPC which might allow the audio to continue but will pointlessly leave the tv running. I don't know the perfect solution but im sure you are not the 1st to have come across this.

well my sony tv has an option to turn the screen off whilst keeping the audio going in the power saving modes which is what i use a lot at night as i like to have music in the background via my htpc when i goto sleep due to suffering from tinnitus but very few tvs have this option and is a big reason i buy sony.
i dont use a amp just hdmi ,if it makes any difference to any solution your trying to find i dont know?

Setting a blank screensaver is what I have been doing but as you say, it needlessly leaves the telly on. Burn may be a thing of the past but image retention is not, I can clearly see windows and even MPC's window and buttons if its left up for 10mins or so. It quickly fades but it does make me a little uneasy :P

Thanks for the help though, Ill keep fiddling or just turn the telly off :)
