H50, H70 or...

Was going to get a H70 but reading around the H50 out performs it. Trouble is I just checked the corsair forums and there are 3-4 topics about leaking H50's.

So don't know what to do now, H50, H70 or a massive air cooler. I can't really be doing with a massive HS but can't be doing with leaks either.

It will be cooling an Athlon 620 in a CM-690 for now, hopefully upgrading to a 1100T after I've sold some old stuff.

I want to keep noise down but temps reasonable. What to do?

Oh and just using onboard graphics if that helps. Cheers.

I would go for the H70 if you can’t be doing with massive heat sinks. This has a thicker radiator than the H50.

I changed the fans on mine for 2 x Apache Black's and its ultra quiet running in PWM.

Any reasons why you can't get an air cooler instead? Is the size just a personal thing or a case restrictions? I'd personally get a good heatsink over the A.L.C systems. Strangely enough, those liquid cooling units are not quiet.

Buying a H50 and two fans on top of that will cost quite a lot. You could just buy a heatsink with your choice of fans and get quieter + cooler operation.

+1 for the H70 and Viper Fans using the PWM.

Idles at 36 and is pretty much silent. Seems to top out about 73 running Prime95 for 4 hours.

Thanks

LOL... i've just order the h70 with 2viper fans to put on it BUT i have a venom cooler with the 2viper fans on and my temps are 30'c idle and 60'c fully loaded!. my cpu is clocked at 4ghz @1.3v.... so my cpu cooler at the mo is better then h70?....

Hi,

Can you accurately compare the temps of an i5 @ 4Ghz to an i7 @ 4.2Ghz? I would be surprised if you didn't see a drop in temps though.

Not really, you guys have different CPUs and there are more than one factor affecting both ambient and CPU temperatures. It's not fair to judge cooler performance across different platforms.

That's why the best way to compare CPU cooler performance is to look at reviews where the test setup is consistent to minimize fluctuations from those other factors.

Both, blocking/restricting ram slots and fan mount points doesn't seem clever when there is a more compact alternative.

The fans will be running of a fan controller so I'm hopeing I can keep the stock fans at an acceptable level, if not I'll buy some.

I suppose it just depends on how loud the pump is on the H70 and how much truth there is in the reports of higher temps compared to the H50.

I was going to order the H70 this week but like you read about the leaking H50's on the Corsair forum and now not sure it's worth the risk. Will probably go for the Noctua NH-D14 now.

I've had my H50 for around 18 months now, with my pc on 24/7 and it's never leaked. I only run the 1 fan (that came with it) and I can't hear it tbh and i've never heard a noise from the pump of it.

My ati card fan makes more noise.

Well went with the H70 in the end. Bit concerned though.

Getting it out of the box I can hear loads of air in it, like it needs bleeding/topping, obviously neither are possible. So I plugged the pump in to see how it runs and it's really loud.

Is it normal to have so much air in it? If I leave it running for a few mins or tip it so the air is in the rad it's a lot quieter but far from quiet and it vibrates quite a lot too.

If this is normal I'll be getting an air cooler instead.

If you mean at the start it sounds a bit bubbly then my H50 did that but it should disappear after a few seconds, maybe give it a few minutes.

It's not just the start, it's whenever all the air in the system is in the pump, even if I possition the unit so all the air is in the RAD it's still noisy. Slowing the pump down to 1100 RPM makes it silent but i shouldn't need to slow the pump down.

I've posted on the corsair forums and am waiting for a reply. There is at least one other person who RMA'd a H70 after theirs behaved like mine.

Here is a vid I took of me shaking the RAD if you want to hear the air in it, it sounds half empty!
