Anyone got one, are they any good, i have a bluray player, thats all thats going to be connected to it aswell as my TV, will i need any extra cables? ive tried to look how it will all connect together but cant get my head around it :(

Hi,

I'm looking at getting this shortly along with the extra speakers in the future. Can anybody answer this (what i guess is a simple) question.

I have my tv plugged into my WD HDTV via HDMI, and a DVD player plugged into the TV via scart (though I don't use this often) at the moment.

Is it just a case of plugging the TV into the Onkyo via HDMI or so I need to do something else? I wasn't sure if the WD needed to be plugged in anywhere via optical out.

I'd like the Onkyo system to work when watching normal TV and when the WD HDTV is in use.

Thanks

I had the earlier version of this and it's pretty easy to set up.

For best results you're looking at:

HDMI from TV to Onkyo Out.
HDMI from WDTV to Onkyo In (providing the WDTV can output 5.1 via HDMI).

How you setup the audio for watching TV depends on what package you have. If you have Sky then you have 2 options (note the sky box doesn't transmit 5.1 Dolby Digital over HDMI) :

1. Sky to TV by HDMI for the picture and optical/coaxial to Onkyo for the best 5.1 sound, or

2. If the Onyko can take 2 inputs from the same device but let you decide which one you use for sound then you could do HDMI out from sky box to HDMI in on the Onkyo. Then to get the benefit of the 5.1 Dolby Digital you'd need an optical or coaxial cable from Sky to the Onkyo. I'm not sure if the Onkyo would let you do this though.

If you have freeview from an aerial directly into the TV then you could use a set of stereo leads into the Onkyo for better stereo sound (but not Dolby Digital).

If you have another set-top box let us know what connections it has.

The Onkyo doesn't have scart for your DVD but you could plug that into the TV still but use an optical/coaxial lead from the DVD to the Onkyo if you DVD has these outputs. Otherwise you're looking at another set of stereo leads.
