Do you find people just don't trust you?

You probably just have that dodgy look about you. One of those things.

The guy who wouldn't let you near his PC was probably concerned about the horse porn collection littered all over his desktop...

probably i wouldnt let anyone who knows how to search for *.avi anywhere near my pc!

I have this, done a HND, a apprenticeship and its now my full time job.

My Mum won't take any advice about PC/Laptops! :p

I find it 80/20, majority of people trust me and everyones after me with their pc problems. I do find some people are funny about their stuff though and act distrustingly towards me, i guess they are on guard as their ignorance will show up and they think this will make them targets for being ripped off.

No I have the total opposite problem of people wanting me to sort their stuff for them.
I have this too, mainly because I spent years doing it for a living. Only problem is I went into a sort of techno-rejection when I changed career and now I hate anything technological. I haven't touched anything even remotely up to date in years and to be honest, I haven't a clue about anything any more and I'm quite happy :p

My pc is from about 2004, mobile phone around 2006, don't do any gaming, don't have any gadgets.

So when people sit me in front of something, they just don't understand when I tell them I probably know less about it than they do :D

Nope, everyone tends to trust me

Though I cba to help people with IT problems most of the time

The only person I've encountered this with is my Aunty.

She teachs low level IT to adults (ECDL, CLAIT - basic computer skills and word processing). She knows her way around a computer (installing applications and adding hardware - external hardware).. but when there is a clear problem.. she won't let me near it.. she'd rather get ripped off by a shop to upgrade her RAM.

Think yourself lucky, I bloody hate having to fix everyone's stuff all the time.

Same here, especially when your fixing the same problem over and over again. Lost count of the number of times I have had to reinstall windows in my household. I don't mind if I'm getting paid, but that is rarely the case.

I've had this situation with a car on the work carpark, 2 women were trying to jump start a car, obviously because the battery was down... So I and another colleague are walking to my car to go home, when one of the women asked us to help, she's on the phone with her husband telling her what to do but doesn't understand it, so I just kinda take over, open the bonnet, pull the battery cover, and quickly connect the leads, in no time the other car is started and when I'm about to disconnect the jump leads and the women is who still on the phone starts shouting at me in a panicked voice, to disconnect the jump leads from her car first . Apparently that's what her husband told her over the phone and she was completely panicking over me disconnecting the jump lead from the other car first . Like it bloody matters on which side you disconnect a cable first.

My dad will not let me in a mile of his virus infested laptop which is so slow it needs a good format, just moans when it does not do what he wants it to.

Same for my brother in law, 3 weeks it took me to get him to format his laptop due to it being an overloaded pile of crap, so he got someone else to do it just in case I ****** it up.

If they ask for help now I just ignore them.

Nope - I'm pretty much the man on call for tech, legal and relationship issues. If anyone has a problem, I'm either the first contact or a desperate backup, I'm not sure which :D

i do get this occasionally, and i mean very occasionally.

I'm much more afflicted with the fact that about 95% of ordinary Caucasian British people that i know really quite strongly dislike me.

people of other ethnicities or nationalities seem to love me though.

no offence but its going to be something about your personality and the way you present yourself,

my brother has the same sort of issue from what I can tell, it is because it is a totall ASS... my mom rings be with questions even though he still lives at home....

Its not necessarly that you are an ASS, it could be you are just not approchable

Exactly the opposite for me and people think I can do stuff I've got no chance of doing.

+1.

I don't really fix people's computers and things these days as I got fed up of people taking the **** and automatically entering me into a lifetime support contract whenever things go pear shaped.

If I did offer and they told me I'd break it then I wouldn't really give a buggar, that's one less thing for me to worry about and probably one less stealth lifetime support contract.
