People go on about widgets on one of the home screens like its something that is amazing, yet you have to get to that home screen to see it. How is that different from clicking an icon on the front screen in iOS? You still have to click somewhere!

because it's faster and you can have multiple widgets on a screen.
widgets can be different sizes and change what they display.
i have 3 widgets on my middle screen and 3 on the one to the right of it, so i can quickly slide between the screens and see 6 widgets i don't have to run 6 apps then return to the home screen each time.

Because in apple's own words "I don't have to change to fit the device, the device fits me" and with Android you can customise the hell out of those homescreens, just look at the mobile desktops thread the variety of styles is great and remember widgets are not limited to 1 per screen like an app, one flick and you can have 4 or 5 widgets from different apps. It's nice to have that freedom and it's something that puts me off switching to an IOS device because it's losing functionality, with android you can still have a screen full of icons if you want (hell you can even emulate IOS homescreens exactly), but you also have the choice not to...
If you still don't get it imagine you want to check how your torrents are doing and check the weather then play a bit of doodle jump. On IOS in your example you would have to click in and out of 2 programs and then into your game, whereas with Android you can take a glance at the widgets that are on the same screen without clicking anything and just click into doodle jump, 1 click rather than 5.
Choice is what android is about all round, choice of handset, choice of look and feel, keyboards, icons, it's nice to make something your own rather than having an iclone
It's really not life changing though is it. It takes seconds to do what you said. You are not really doing anything amazing. A touch quicker, a button click less.
If you are on home screen and the 2 widgets you are looking at are on another home screen, thats a click or 2 away. Then if your game icon isnt on the same screen as the widgets, thats more clicks.
Yes, you could make it so that the 2 you view most and your most played game are on the same screen, but how often would that be the only thing you do?

Like your good self im an ex android user but currently a very happy iPhone user...for me the iphone4 was the phone that the iphone should have been from the start...although it could still be improved on...well the OS could be improved on thats for sure but then im jailbroken on my i4 to the hilt and its much better than stock iOS.
and you think it would be easier to explain what IOS is?
Iphone is what people recognise NOT the software it runs...

And that is proven by the companies that produce apps.
The produce an "iPhone" app and an "Android" app. One being the device and one being the OS.

All I can say is that I am a multi user. I have a HTC Phone + iPhone. The prices of the iPhones are really steap compared to the HTC phones but the iPhones do things more fluently. iOS is very rich compared to the Android OS.
I like both OSs on Android/Apple, however nobody has the right to call some one ignorant just because they own a certain type of mobile phone.

What I object to with the iphone (and really all apple devices) is their price tag.
Its a designer/brand issue similar to that of Jack Wills/Abercrombie for clothing.
The iphone is a good device (I'll adamantly say not as good as my Galaxy S though...) but for the features it has it is over priced and unfortunately Apple knows people will pay that price. Just like Jack Wills knows it can charge £40+ for a plain tshirt because it has their brand on it and people know what it is.
Edit: Another point I've thought of: when the iphone was first released it was the best in all honesty and so got its reputation fast. iPhone became a household name/talking point even if you didn't own one. Android is becoming more known but without a single killer ground breaking phone (like the iphone when first released) it won't ever have the same recognition.

...which has got nothing to do with Tim's point. Apple USERS (or indeed Android users for that matter) shouldn't need to fret about the OSs on other peoples' handsets, regardless of market share!
What does a £550 Nexus S have over a £500 iPhone?
It isn't any better made (plastic vs metal/glass), the screen is a lower res, battery is worse, camera is worse, music handing is worse, it's not any quicker.
There's a few things like using as a Wi-Fi hotspot (can be done on a jailbroken iPhone), NFC and flash (also available on iPhone via Skyfire).
For most things I just don't see why you think the iPhone is inferior?

- The Nexus S isn't £550, it's £430
- Skyfire Flash isn't flash, it's server side encoded and as a result, can't do interactive flash content or TV streaming content
Whilst I agree that the Nexus S really is crap (I hate stock Android and Samsung mobile phones), your post pretty much twisted the facts in order to defend the iPhone.

I spent Xmas weekend with 2 iphone 4s and put them side by side with my Desire running Gingerbread.
Apart from the amazing video camera capabilities of the iPhone 4 (which I used to record the comparisons) I couldn't find anything extra to wow me. Even the much famed Appstore wasn't that great in that a lot of free apps on Android were pay for on iPhone.
The youtube app was also poor compared to the latest Android youtube app which allows you to do much more without leaving the video.
And then there's the lack of options. I kept wondering "there has to be more options here" but there wasn't, the only options are in Settings where you can customise various stuff but it's nothing major.
The Android browser loaded webpages much faster than iPhone 4 as well and you had more of the webpage in view regardless of the higher iPhone 4 resolution, this was due to the Safari browser's bulky toobars and whatnot.
There's much more I learnt too but it doesn't really apply here but I was pretty much familiar with the iPhone 4 within the first hour because I'd done everything in it out of the box that could have been done and played with. I recall spending a good few weeks at least finding new little bits here and there when I got my Desire.

The only objectionable thing about the iPhone is the pricetag, for users with moderate texting/voice minutes needs who mainly want a smartphone for internet and social media, Android phones provide an equal or better experience than iPhones for hundreds of pounds less over the contract period.
Of course, most people with iPhones have them because they are a fashion statement, and don't care what they cost or what features they lack. It's like having a Rolex.
