Well, apparentley, according to the holman illustrated bible dictionary, often the soul is equated with the whole person. Genesis 2:7 states God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man came to be a living soul. The first man was a soul. other scriptures support this. The bible states all living creatures-human or animal are souls. The bible also states the soul that is sinning-it itself will die (Ezikiel 18:4).

With regards to religious beliefs it has been said the predisposition to religious belief is the most complex and powerful force in the human mind and in all probability an ineradicable part of human nature.

It gives you the balls to do stuff beyound sensiable and also reproduction, not just survival. Ego gives you a big edge.

There's no requirement for intelligence yet thats how we have evolved, the most prolific species are one cell organisms.

There is if it's a certain perportion of society, gives them the seperiority to go hunt large prey or a 101 other things. Same as adrenaline junkies, gives them abilities to further race. Theres a huge upside to these traits that come at a small risk to the individual.

There's more to the ego than that though I tend to look on it as a mental diseasever-confidence/ insecure in real terms and so on.

That's only because modern society rarely needs these traits, but people are still born predisposed to them.

A throwback to a bygone age. Ironic then that the evolution of concsiousness is required in some circles to feature an abscence of that self/ego.

Thats what I mean, plenty of animals seem to do perfectly well without one. Ours allows us almost to circumvent the whole survival fittest and all that. We deny the hunt, and corral animals into convenient little pens, and we do not just succumb to illness.

I can see why it evolved, once it appeared theres just no stopping it.

I havent, thats why I said "seems", either way ours is more developed than theirs.

with the language barrier it's hard to tell anything. Every few months scientists are upgrading species intelligence. Until we find a way to communicate or scan brains but have real meaning behind it, we have very little idea how different animals are to us.

animals that fight for alpha position could well be based on massive egos in part.

conciousness is just the ability to have thoughts. thoughts are just memories or past experiences based from feelings.
