Facebook - Anyone know how to view the message on 'friend request'?

An old friend recently added me, and a long with the request he left a short message. However I clicked add friend before I read the message.

I'd like to know what he said, is there anyway to view this message now that I've accepted him as a friend?

I thought the message just came up in the friend request? As when you request a friend, you can attach a message to the friend request.

As soon as you accept it, it will dissapear IIRC?

possibly in an email if you have email notification set up?

Part of it did which is why I know he attached the message, however now I've accepted it, it seems to have disappeared. Looked like a question which is why I was interested in seeing it.
