ok so ive got about £1500 give or take coming my way in a week or so and my old PC has died horribly, its very out dated and the graphics card has fried so i thought why not just buy a new one and stop hacking together a PC like ive been doing for a few years, ANYWAY as i was saying, i need some advice on what to get as this is my first time building a system from scratch so what parts go with what im unsure of i was thinking of 1 of 3 things
1 i was going to get (sorry dont know how to insert the links :S)
EVGA GeForce GTX 580 "Black OPS" 1536MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Asus Crosshair IV Extreme AMD 890FX (Socket AM3) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair Professional Series™ Gold AX1200 High Performance 1200W Power Supply (CMPSU-1200AXUK)
AMD Phenom II X6 Six Core 1100T Black Edition 3.30GHz (Socket AM3) - Retail
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium - Retail (Full Version)(GFC-00025)
CoolIT Eco A.L.C. 240mm Radiator CPU Watercooler (Socket AM2/AM2+/AM3/LGA775/LGA1156/LGA1366)
G.Skill RipJaw 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Triple Channel Kit

and add some bits onto it however, i really dont know what the best deal would be and give me the best performance i can from a gaming PC im completely stumped any help would be greatly appreciated

Intels new and faster Sandy bridge stuff is released on January 9th, so I would wait till then.

But a quick look at your build above highlights a lot of errors such as,

A quad core cpu is better for gaming, each core runs faster on a quad compared too equivalent hex core.

3 sticks of ram on a system thats got a dual channel memory controller, the ram needs to be in pairs, so 2 or 4 sticks.

You really dont need/want 6cores for gaming. There are still very few games that even take advantage of 4 so going for a higher clocked cpu with a good size cache is better for gaming. Similarly you dont need anywhere near 12gb ram. Even 8gb is overkill for gaming.

Hence id go with stulids plan of waiting for intel's next release in early jan.

cheers for the advice, i shall re look into what to get and more than likely save a few bob with going for a quad core, i shall also consider intel, even though i hate intel with a passion so over priced but i guess the times are changing :( any suggestions on build other than the processor i should look at?

That was back in the day - now pricing (for all but ridiculous cpus) is pretty accurate relative to performance. AMD really targets people on a tight budget which with £1.5K you definitely aren't!

Alternatively you could go budget and AMD and send me the £1K left over? :D

i see a lot of people recommending waiting till sandy bridge for proposed new gaming builds but is it not true that the new cpu's aren't really worth the premium for gamers considering that games don't even take advantage of i7 as is?

given that and considering vat increases in january as well would it not be a better idea to go ahead now? i don't know, just my thoughts.
