I just installed a brand new MSI 5850 but the entire screen has a bright yellow hue to it

Ive installed the drivers and done everything I can think of but I cant figure it out, any ideas ?

The fan is also really loud at idle.

Heres my specs:

Phenom II 955
4GB OCZ Platinum
ASUS m4a785td-v evo

Any help would be fantastic.

DOH, ihadn't pushed the Dvi connector completely in:rolleyes:

The fan is still incredibly noisy though, any ideas how I can fix that ?

Will I need to install afterburner ?

Its the Twin Frozr II R5850, temps at idle are 24/25 degrees at 55 percent fan speed as the standard setting

There is your problem, the fan speed shouldn't be set to 55% for idle... more like 23%. Even when gaming, it should get up to 55%, try setting some profiles in MSI afterburner, or make sure its set to "auto" fan control speed.

I'm downloading the latest drivers now to see if that fixes it. If I set a manual profile in Afterburner will I need afterburner to start on system startup for it to apply the settings again ? Also if I set it manually will it increase the speed automatically if there is a chance of the card overheating ?

Your better off going through ATI's CCC, and checking the fan speed... No, if you set a manual speed through afterburner, it will stay at that speed and won't increase if the card is over heating.

This is turning into a bit of a mission ! Why oh why do they set such an overkill fanspeed as standard and make it annoyingly difficult to set up a reasonable profile without the risk of burning out the card ?

Hopefully the updated drivers will sort the problem.

Is ATI CCC the catalyst control center ?

I've tried clicking on that by right click and then clicking on it but nothing loads up:confused:

It's also knocked out my sound drivers

Just set a fanspeed profile in MSI Afterburner and leave auto on. That way the fanspeed will increase and decrease accordingly to the temp:fanspeed profile you set.

Yes the default 55% fanspeed is indeed annoying. I set the fanspeed profile in MSI Afterburner start with 30% as lower, 40% at 50C, then 50% at 60C, then 70% at 80C.

Yes, it is.

My method is probably unorthodox but I always set my fan speeds manually anyway since the speeds I choose vary so much from game to game, and I like to experiment by switching them about a lot. So, for my card I let it idle at 30%, then I just ramp it up to say 40% for cs:s, 45% + for something more demanding.

Cool, so I need to make sure afterburner starts at start-up to apply these settings ?

I've had a mess about with the auto fan control properties on the graph thing, I assume thats it ?

yes mate it is mine looks like this:

Anoyingly the fan speed wont go down to 20% on startup I have to go into settings then hit okay/apply and it goes down :(

OKI this is what mine looks like, I cant seem to get a gradual curve though for some reason :

Have I checked the boxes correctly on the main screen to apply these settings ? I dont want my card burning out !

What is this msi afterburn?.. I wouldn't mind trying to over clock my 5850 but how can I test it so I know it's stable?.
MSI Afterburner allows you to increase the core clock and memory clock (aka overclock), as well as extra voltage for keeping the overclock stable. Also, there's fanspeed control which allows you to set your custom fanspeed profile which will increase and decrease fanspeed according to the temp:fanspeed profile you set.

To test stability of overclock, you should run so benchmarks (I use Heaven Benchmark 2.1), as well as games (I use BFBC2) to stress the graphic card to see if it is stable enough and not crash the driver or the PC. Ideally, you should use these tests to determine the minimum voltage you need to use to keep the overclock stable.

That's brill thank you, where can I find msi afterburn?, how much voltage would you give your gfx?.

Guru3D.
It's written by unwinder.
And the GPU's are fine at the maximum voltage allowed in Afterburner.
Unless you unlock the voltage, I can for example set my voltage to 1.9v (But that'd be stupid)

Ok so I reckon I'm nearly sorted, just one last question. Do I need to check the auto button on the main menu to allow it to change the speed as the card heats up or should it do it without it seeing as I have set the curves ?
