HIS 6970 set up HELP!

Hi there ppl,

To all you 6970 owners: (or knowledgeable ppl)

What is the optimum set up for the 6970?

I take it the 10.12a Hotfix is the way to go?

What software are you guys using? CCC, MSI Afterburner etc (if available for 6970 yet)

Did you flash your HIS to an Asus or other brand?

Just looking for some pointers to save time.

Thnx,

Wu

EDIT: On a side note - atm I just turn my fan up on my 4890 manually when I start up a game and turn fan back down when I go back to desktop. Now I know that you can set up profiles etc for fan speed to follow temps but there's nothing wrong with doing it the way I'm doing it now, is there? I go from 50% fan on idle (with 4890) to 75% when ingame.

Just received and installed the HIS 6970.

2 things though (possibly noob questions so apologies):

1.) The stock core clock is 850 in CCC - shouldn't it be 880Mhz?
2.) It won't detect my second monitor which is VGA with a DVI converter into the second DVI port?

Any help apprecaited.

Wu

EDIT: and it's idling at 57c WTF my 4890 idled at about 40c...

FPS in left 4 dead is like 280 until I add anti alias and at highest anti alias which is x8 iirc FPS drop to like 50.

Any help guys would really be appreciated at this point.

You're having a laugh right?
Use the drivers on the disk.

EDIT button is there to be used.
VGA is supported through a DVI-VGA adaptor convertor.
It should be fine with VGA as the second monitor.

Yeah that's what I said to them - what is the point in having a VGA > DVI cable in the box then? I'm calling them back - this is stupid....

Did you uninstall the ccc totally before or even after adding the card? i had an issue when i installed mine where it didn't function properly so i just removed all(including the 2 ATI folders) then download and installed 10.12

Hi , i have the same card , mine was running at my old card clocks until i used the defaults tab in ccc, the drivers i found a pig to load tbh, never used the driver disk , i am now on 10.12 off the amd site.

seems to run fine now but i sort of know where your coming from.

@ Syscho yeah mate - uninstalled CCC with CCleaner and registry clean then installed the 10.12a drivers

@martini - why wouldn't I ring them? Isn't that what the telephone number is for? It's a bit stupid that I'm getting told by them that the 6900 series doesn't support second monitor via VGA > DVI converter and then you (unless you are wrong) say something completely different....

EDIT: Trying left4dead more and more and yeah it's the anti-aliasing that's massively lowering the fps - this shudn't be the case I'm assuming? A 2 year old source based game stressing a brand new gfx card?

Spoke to OcUK again and I get told that 50fps is pretty normal for full settings in Left4Dead with a 6970. I then describe a tom's hardware benchmark with a 5850 getting 104 fps at higher res than I'm playing! then get told to run 3dmark11 and let them know what the score is.....a normally very happy customer is becoming less and less impressed, unless I am wrong, which I am open to.

Idle temp now down to 44c which is better :P (with auto fan sittings @25%)

EDIT: On the 2nd monitor issue it seems OcUK were right " the new ATI 6 series cards only have 1 RAMDAC, so VGA output is only possible over the Dual-Link DVI connection."

net_graph 3 in console

@martini - you're confusing me now which is easily done. :p

My second monitor is a VGA only monitor. Using my 4890 and an adaptor(VGA> DVI) as supplied with gfx cards) I was able to use it in the second DVI slot and use it as a second monitor. On the 6970 I cannot it seems.

The DVI ports are different, the one alongside the exhaust is the dual link, the one next to the HDMI is the single link. So you want your DVI monitor in the dual link, and VGA adapter in single link. I'm guessing :)

I have the 6950 but no 2nd monitor to test with.

Yeah got my two monitors back! Thnx mate.

Ah, so if you get a high res monitor that needs to DVI inputs, you can do that from one of the cards DVI outputs? If true, that would be handy for me.

Hi , i get 60 fps in l4d2 with aax8 running at 1920 x 1200 with clock at default and cpu at 4.0 ghz

had to finish the campaign :)

i'm using 10.12 on my 6970 Works fine idle temps after gaming are 50C @ 26% auto fan load i does run quite hot upto 90C, I can tell you this is runs my l4d2 perfect but l4d2 is mainly limited by CPU as is black ops only thing i can suggest is reinstall the drivers.. and restart the runtime of CC, Also make sure the game is not some how running in window mode.
