As the title suggests. All discussion and relevant links and benchmarks welcome and appreciated.

Speed is not the only concern, but also noise, efficiency and heat output.

Many thanks in advance for your help with this matter OcUK! :)

have you seen the sticky at the top/ ;)

if you can streatch the budget slightly or find a 6950 @ the £200 mark(at the moment cheapest seems to be £213 tho sure there'll be more offers taking it into sub £200).

worth every penny. and overclocking it to a 6970 (which costs a fair bit more) is an added bonus, but as far as i know, not definite.
Maybe skip an indulgent lunch and save the extra cash! :)

yes its a great card ...but once again in true ocuk fashion the posters have completely ignored the op. :p
with the budget of £200 the best your going to get is a ATI 5870 or a NV GTX470 both superb cards that will serve you well.
but if you are willing to flash the bios of your new and shiney card then as others have said it is well worth finding the extra for a AMD6950....:D

This man says it... Top budget of £200!

Please bear in mind that the 6950 is the same speed as the 5870, and the GTX470 is only about 5% behind those as it stands. Considering you can get a 5870 for £190, I'd go for that instead.
The only advantage a 6950 has over a 5870 is the ability to flash it to a 6970 (edit: and it's crossfire scaling), and it must be said that not everybody wants the risk of flashing a 6950 to a 6970.

as you can get a 6950 for £213/£214 at the moment plus ocuk had 1 for £200 recently, it's not hard to believe that there'll be another 6950 in the sub £200 in the near future(just depends how quickly the op want the card) also £13/£14 isn't a huge leap from the £200 budget.

if the op doesn't want to go the bios flashing route then that's upto them, if on the other hand they do then the 6950 wins hands down.

and as the guy in the 5850 vs 6850 thread was arguing, the 6950 is newer tech thus better even if the op doesn't flash the bios ;)

Maybe you could wait for the 6950 to go on an offer bringing the card to £200 again? :P And at £150 the GTX460 MSI Hawk "Talon Attack" is very good for the money if you plan on oc'ing it.

There's also the possibility that the 6950 will improve with new drivers, and the fact it's better in DX11 games, so will beat the 5870 in future releases. Couple that with the improved scaling (if you add another in the future) and better resale value (if you sell instead of adding another) and the £25 extra is easily worth it IMO.

The possibility of flashing to 6970 performance is a bonus on top of all the above.

The other alternative, (that's what I am doing) is to wait for a couple of weeks for the GTX 560.
Reading reports of it puts this card in direct competition with the HD6950 at prices of under £200.
Worth a thought if you can wait.

improve with new drivers....laughing out loud...... maybe release some drivers that actually work properly with the card you mean, this has to be the worst driver/card launch that i can remember for a long time.

improved scaling means absolutely nothing if you only intend to run a single card.

its only a few extra pounds....yes yes yes so it is ....but there is the crux of the matter it is over the budget he specified yes that right it is more money than he has ....so its not an option.

now we all agree if you are willing to invalidate your warranty and flash your bios then the 6950 is a cracking deal at its currant price. i seem to remember that we were told that prices will rise on 6950's in the new year.....of course i may be remembering incorrectly......?

Yeah I remember Gibbo saying that prices would rise on the 6950 next year, plus of course the extra 2.5% tax we'll have to pay!

Although it wouldn't surprise me if there is a 1 day beat the vat rise type promotion similar to the 5% off code that they did over Christmas.

Hey guys, apologies for not reading the sticky and so on, was in a rush yesterday to get the info so didn't read around. But yes, sorry about that! :)

Thanks for your help and advice :)
