Are Sky TV subscription prices too high...

I agree, I had SKY HD installed about 6 months back and I hardly ever watch HD channels, just so used to watching normal ones, think I may cancell the HD £10 pack

depends what you are after magix_x_uk

ITV HD, BBC1 HD, BBC HD and C4 HD can all be received for free via freesat HD or Freeview HD (c4 HD on freeview hd only atm)

For now on HD that is good enough for me and until they drop that £10 charge I can't see myself getting sky hd.

tbh the best way to get the best deals is to always cancel your subscription and then join back up in a few months when they are offering better deals

how many of you have done this before? hands up!

you got a great deal there.

and there's millions of long term members paying £60 a month for this...
feels so unfair anyone agree?

i couldn't afford £60 per month! Once the 12 months is up i'll be cancelling Sky. The only reason i got it was the offer price and the fact we get zero reception with our regular tv aerial!

But is Virgin really any cheaper though? If you want the full package plus sport and movie channels on Virgin it's £59 a month, for less channels than Sky.

Yep, as I dont like sports so the sport channels are not needed and for the movies I have a LoveFilm account.

Sky will drop the HD sub hopefully within the next 2 years when more free to air HD channels become avaliable or if 3D ever takes off they can make their £10 sub from that.

It would be nice if Sky drop the HD subscription, but it's going to be incredibly difficult for Sky to wave goodbye to £30 million a month. IF they do get rid of the HD sub, i suspect it will be only for Sky World customers.

Our subscription consists of Sky+ Variety pack, phone and max unlimited broadband. I called up today enquiring about Sky HD services, and generally having a moan that I'm only really interested in the free to air HD channels such as BBC, and so I wouldn't want to pay the £10pm addition.

He suggested to upgrade to Sky HD for a one off payment of £15.00 (delivery), once i receive the box to cancel the HD service within 21 days, leaving me with a new box (500GB over my current 80GB) and no further admin fees. I would then get the free to air channels such as BBC HD, CH4 HD, CH5 HD and ITV HD for free...

... my new HD+ box arrives next week :)

Surely you'll still need the HD subscription to get the free to air HD channels?

Anyway the HD subscription is worth it, some of the channels are perfect, especially sports and movies HD :)

nope, they are not allowed to charge for free to air HD channels, he may find the recording side of the HD+ box packs up as soon as he cancels the subscription though !

You get BBC 1 HD, BBC HD, ITV HD, Channel 4 and Channel 5 if you have a HD box without the HD pack. Certain channels like ITV2,3 and 4 HD, E4HD etc are only available to people paying £10 for the HD pack.

Like anything in life, if you don't use it or need it, it's overpriced!

But for the family, over Christmas, £50 for everything bar sports, with 40+ HD channels,, its easily justified for us. I tend to just series link anything interesting, and sit down for an hour or so late on an evening and watch stuff from the planner.

Its a total luxury, and if money was tight, it'd be the first thing to go, but now I am used to lots of good HD documentaries and other more interesting series that aren't on freeway/view I would miss it somewhat.

No, from my conversation with the customer service rep I expect my service to return to the current Sky+ Variety pack I'm currently paying for when I cancel/downgrade within the 21 day period, only with the addition of bigger hard drive and access to the free to air hd channels...

I won't be cancelling my subscription, only dropping the Sky HD bundle pack within the cool off cancellation period back to the regular Sky+ package. Same scenario as a new customer receiving a Sky+ HD box when signing up for Sky+ if they have a HD ready TV, they would have the option to either just get the FTA stuff or pay the £10 pm extra for the Sky HD pack.

I thought it was good at first. £20 for everything bar movies and sports. After about a year I realized it was all repeats and loads of adverts. Eventually cancelled as the sub went up to £22 and I just didn't really watch anything. Got Freesat HD and all is good. I miss Dave but hopefully that will come to Freesat eventually.

It is expensive, if you dnot have a high or 2 incomes in a house hold then you'll struggle.

Luckly I got a deal that was posted. I pay £10.50 a month.

Got / get

Free Sky HD Box
Free Sky installation
Sky 1 package
Music package
Discovery package
HD channels

Subscription running out soon. Will be calling up to cancel or see what they can do :)

I think my Dad pay's around £80 but we get

Sky HD with every package
Unlimited Broadband (Up to 20Meg I think, I get around 15)
Phone

Now that sounds like a more realistic package price on the face of it, although 20meg Broadband is not that much now, and £80 is still a fair bit each month

I think its over-priced, I would be happy with Freesat HD

snap !
