Steam christmas sale 2010... *twitch*

If u say so

Feel free to type "you" since you're not using a cell phone... also, the :p indicated it was a comment in jest.

But seriously, I've met very few PC gamers from that time who've not played through the game. My friends who didn't even own PC's came around to play it on mine!

On a lighter note; let's hope for good deals tomorrow. So far, I've averaged 2 games a day... :o:p:eek:

kinda ur opinion, there's 1000s of games out there u could say this about... and yes I haven't finished HL1

Thousands? I doubt you could find more than a handful with more awards or higher acclaim.

Personal opinion nothing, it's a classic and influential title that helped shape its genre and online gaming massively.

What would you consider as more influenial and revolutionary titles then?

quake

Certainly an influential title, but does it really match the scale of improvements from Half-Life with AI, narrative and use of scripted sequences? Not to mention spawning what was (and still remains one of) the most popular online game for a hell of a long time.

Personal opinion counts more here I guess, I just feel that Half Life brought a lot more to the table in everything it did, especially as it only came two years after quake. ;)

Mario and Zelda.

Not really individual titles so much as series of games. :p Very influential though.

Don't get me wrong, I love HL, but earlier games set the wheels in motion. HL basically improved upon everything, especially AI, narrative etc, but the bare bones were set out beforehand.

Wolfenstein/Quake etc are like crummy early film compared to a huge modern epic; not as good by any means, but got the basics down first.

I think quake and UT are far more defining than Half-Life, simply because they shaped the modern fps shooters of today. They laid the foundation and set the ball rolling on the multiplayer competetive fps. Half-Life made some advancment in how a games narrative was told but it hasn't had as much of an influence as the others.

You think UT had more of an influence on online gaming than HL1?

Being able to look up was a fairly big improvement :p

I don't disagree at all. :)

Obviously HL wasn't first on the scene, but the improvements it brought changed the genre a lot more than Quake did in my opinion, especially for single player. :)

I'm also not saying that Quake is a bad game, and it's another game I think everyone should play. Just, if you've only got one day to live and can't decide which to play of the two. I suggest Half life would be the priority. :p

the statement said your not a real gamer if you haven't played it, not how influential the game was on the genre, thousands was an exaggeration, but anyone could say that statement about their favourite game, hell someone could go and say it about Black Ops, neway that's all I'll say on the matter, back to the sales

absolutely gutted missed the crysis pack, completely forgot to check yesterday. bought the quake pack though, remember Q3A like it was yesterday - need to get into its multiplayer again!!! cant wait

UT? I wouldn't have put that as a massive influence, great and popular no doubt, but I don't think it really raised the bar much imo (personal opinion again etc).

Didn't it come out the same time as Q3?

the statement said your not a real gamer if you haven't played it, not how influential the game was on the genre,

Well, I'm pretty sure that was tongue in cheek, but either way, it's a title you'd be mad to miss out on voluntarily, along with Quake and other influential games.

I think if you take a look at metacritic, it's more than just a statement about someone here's favourite game. ;)

hell someone could go and say it about Black Ops

And they'd be very wrong imo. :p
