My new 6970 has arrived from OCUK so I'd like to install it. But each thread I read seems to suggest a different method of installing the card (ie, whether or not to remove old drivers, boot to safe mode, etc).

My Win 7 64-bit has only ever had an nvidia 6600GT installed, and Windows used its own drivers. Can I just switch off, plug new card in, boot and then install 10.12a?

Thanks

I installed my 6950 by just plugging it in, using driver sweeper to remove the old drivers, rebooting and then installing new drivers.

I wouldn't worry about using safe mode as the above should be fine.

Uninstall Nvidia drivers.
Shut down.
Fit new card.
Reboot.
Install 10.12a drivers.
Play.

Thanks for the replies.

I've never used a driver sweeper, always looked at them like malware. Are they all good?

Since I've only had the 6600GT, I'm not expecting many old drivers to cause a problem, so I'll give this a go.
