Out of touch

I'm a little out of touch but looking to put a soundcard in my new build(s). I'm also after a headset for MMO use. Do I take it USB ones aren't much use if I intend to use a soundcard ?

That is correct. USB is of no use, if you intend to use your sound card.

Cheers, surprised so many are USB. Looks like it's going to be tricky getting a decent one for around £60. Any suggestions for none USB?

After much research and help i've just purchased a:

Xonar DS 7.1 soundcard
Goldring DR150 headphones

Unfortunately I think they are headphones and not a headset...

Might be an option: I use a set of headphones with a cheapish desktop mic, which allows more flexibility especially if you want a certain set of headphones.

I only paid something like £5 for the mic, and no ones ever complained about the quality of my voice coms.

Yes I currently use that but once I build the two new rigs I'll be sitting right next to my wife(to be). I think headsets with mic's will be easier...I had wondered about some Beyerdynamics that are around that price, forgotten the model.

Update: After reading around, particularly a HardOCP review I decided on the USB Corsair HS1's seems like they will do the job for what I need and managed to get two pairs for £133 all in

I'll report back when I've had chance to test them...
