Mine is a Goliath too :D

I just got mine just over a year ago so it's MKI Goliath not MKII.

Well has my smoke, cleaned my fans (they did need cleaning) alas on auto fan control @27% i'm idling at 52c.

It's gotta be the heatsink so I think I will send it back :(

Unless people think that the fact it's dual monitor and therefore 500Mhz idle would acount for a 10c increase? Actually coming to think of it it was same temps when I didn't have my 2nd monitor working so....

Would it be RMA then or DSR?

Thnx all for help.

Wu

Well with RMA, if they test and find it to be working normally then I think you are charged £10 plus shipping, the information regarding this is on the website if you look around. In fact, here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/support.php.

I'm sorry to hear about all this trouble, I hope the next card you get just plugs and plays without all this hassle so you can sit back and enjoy some gaming.

I'm in the same boat with regards to my new card as I'm in Edinburgh aswell, your card defo coming Friday? Mine is now at the Glasgow depot for some reason

Well as I changed my mind and called OCuK before DPD delivered, OCuK advised me to refuse the delivery and the money will be refunded in a day or two instead of DSR. So it came today and I refused as I was advised so I'll be ordering my 6950 along with other new bits today.

I hope you get your card today or tomorrow at the latest.

Didn't have time to read the whole thread so might have already been looked at. Anyway, are you sure your idle clocks are dropping low enough? Mine was idling at 50C to begin with but then by unticking "enable ATI overdrive" it set the correct idle clocks and dropped temps to 33C and reduced idle fanspeed too obviously.

I can enable overdrive now and it keeps the proper idle clocks afterwards.

Doesn't change anythign for me. I figured out what it was - it was the second monitor pushing the clocks up and therefore the temps - just quite a bit of temp increase - it was a surprise ! :D

Thanks for the idea though.

Yeah was only messing mate, one thing to remember about others people temp on here is 50% of the time they are full of $hit. Dont know why people do it but they think by giving uber cool air cooled temp they are pro or makes there set up look good
You soon learn who full of it around here and you can make your own mind up, back on topic mind i belive i read that 10.12a are compatible drivers for us to use, we have no optimized yet so in theroy when there out we should maybe see a difference.

I came from 5870 xfire and i used my custom cooling profile for them on the 6970 it didt go above 80c in any game with but the fan at 45% can be heard over headphones so not ideal :)

I'm gonna reply here as it's not a negative Title :D

But if ppl really do that that's really sad but hey-ho. I do still think that in terms of heat and noise from fan they've prolly gone one step back.

I mean yeah what is the point in having 75% fan on the 6970 lol ? It's so loud

Houston- we are go go go! :p

Ghetto cooling. Well placed fans and cable ties might be in order until something comes out. Or, just sit with the windows all open with 4 pieces of each clothing on. :D Dedicated.

Are you in my living room? SPY ! SPY !

That's pretty much what I'm doing doing! Balcony door open and giving nice cool air along the floor straight to my intakes!

TBH I can live with it - it's just the gap of fan usage is so small - I can't see anyone ever having the fan at 60%+ it's kawwwaayzeeee

No mate I'm not that creepy . I just turned your web cam on :D.

Good idea with the cool air getting to your intakes, I hope there's an aftermarket solution before summer though .

I'll have to have a listen at different fan speeds when I get mine as this has intrigued me. I'm glad you can live with it for now as it gives me peace of mind that if you can live with it then I will too.

Yeah mate it's fine tbh.

It was just a combo of lots of things tbh

The 6950 flash being spread the day after I ordered, the 2nd monitor not working at first, the higher idle temps and really high (imo) max temps of 96c and the louder than Al Murray fan.

After using it for a couple of days now it has become clear that the fan should be kept between 30-50% and that should keep it more than cool enough (even on dual screen).

The 6950 pre-flash is cooler iirc so you should be fine. Just put the fan to like 60% when you get it will make you LOL. Just a good thing you don't ever need it that high which shows that it's although loud a very good cooler perhaps.

On autofan i idled 42-43c earlier, played some Call of Juarez and hit 91c max lol.

Tried with 50% fanspeed playing it and hit 74c max.

The fan noise is horrendous and is what spoils a great card.(going to get an Arctic Cooling Accelero when it's released for 6970)

Yeah I get more or less same temps.

Agreed it is bloody noisy and +1 on the ACA !
