I hate my job so have started looking for a new one. While looking I found, on a jobsite, an ad for a data entry clerk working from home. Boring, but I liked the idea of working from home so I warily enquired further. I've included the response below. The £15 up front screams scam, and the idea of doing 25 "reports" a week to earn £250 a week seems too good to be true. However, seeing as it's paypal I'm tempted to go for it to investigate, with the possibility of getting my money back if it's a scam. What say you OcUK?

Dear *spelt my name wrong*

Thank you for your interest in this position.

The position for Data Entry Clerk/Typist that you inquired about does require you to have a computer with email access and a working knowledge of the Internet with a stable connection. Printers are not at all required, but can be helpful. You will need minimal typing skills for this position. You will be processing orders from your own computer via your email.

Now you must be willing to work as with any job, and it does require some time and effort to be successful. You will be paid £10 - £20 for each order you process and this will be credited to your PayPal account, For example: if you process 25 orders a week at £10.00 each you will make £250.00 weekly. The amount of money you can make is virtually endless. It only depends on the time and effort you put in.

There is a “One Time Fee” of £15.00 to begin; this is non-refundable as to prevent training materials being misused. This is the cost of the Training Manual. The Training Manual gives you the step-by-step instructions on how you get started. When you receive your Training Manual you may begin working that very same day. Once you have processed your first order, you will have already made back the cost of your Training Manual. You will receive your Training Manual through your email.

This work-from-home opportunity is legitimate, and how successful you are only depends on the time and effort you put in.

I am here to help you get started and answer any questions that you may have.

If you are serious, and are willing to put forth some time and effort, then I look very forward to hearing from you again. To get started:

Create a PayPal account or if you have one login,
Click the Send Money tab
Input [email protected] into the “To” textbox,
In the “Amount” textbox input “15,” ensure Great British Pounds is selected,
Select the “services” checkbox and click continue and then follow the on-screen instructions,
Once you have made the payment send an email to [email protected] and make the subject read, “Payment Made” and type in the message box your PayPal email address.
Once the payment is processed training materials will be sent to you and you can start work once you have read the training manual. I hope to hear from you soon.

Kindest regards

Ms (name removed)

I wouldn't trust. I'm so paranoid when it comes to money! :p

Have you tried doing a quick google search for similar scams or anything?

Quoted e-mail address from gmail.com, live.co.uk and hotmail.com. This should be your first clue. Why would a "legitimate" organisation be sending you an e-mail from a gmail address?

Scam.

Sounds like an epic scam. Maybe the orders you have to get are by selling people like you the training manual :D

I knew it in my heart of hearts, just needed to have it said to me lol. *sigh* there goes my dream of getting rich sitting on my arse at my PC :p

There's the scam :)

Don't touch with a bargepole.

You will pay £15 and then the work you do will never be good enough and get rejected. Repeat until you get bored with job.

NEVER pay up front fees for homework.
