A question for GTX 580 owners

I am about to order 580 however I've found lot's of people having similar problems with it, like 3D mark 11 on High will sometimes randomly crash, when in games the driver will stop responding and recover or there are visible artifacts etc. e.g. see http://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=144339.msg1074898;topicseen (and post 3 in there with related links). So my question - does this card run flawlessly for majority of users here and those problems are just isolated incidents ?

One owner stated that he had 580 running for 3 weeks smoothly until serious problems occurred and then after he swapped it for another 580 it has worked correctly for 1 week until exhibiting exactly same problem... I am especially concerned about problems like this as I want to go with aftermarket cooler which unfortunately loses the warranty. My PSU is Seasonic X-750 so hopefully it should be up to the task to eliminate PSU related errors.

Hi
No problems here and has run perfectly since installation.
Have not over clocked yet as tbh, nothing I play taxes my set up.

Only problems i've encountered are with Nvidia power management when playing PES 2011.
When set to adaptive, game plays smooth but in After Burner, all clocks/volts are constantly switching between 2/3D settings.

GPU usage is very low on this game.

Otherwise, great card and even with my ageing Q6600, getting 95%+ GPU usage on JC2/Crysis etc.:)

My palit 580 run fine, and much quieter then my cpu cooler. I OCed to 900/2100 for benching only, with no error or crashes unigine heaven.

Well ok than & thanks. Hopefully it's just another problem brought out of proportions thanks to the internet. So I've just made the order - the MSI card it is.

Hi.

I have a Palit GTX 580 runs with no issues at all. Awesome GPU.

I have completed loads of benchmarking tests with it. Reaching 890 Core 1780 Shader Memory 2100

3D Mark Vantage 32016
3d Mark 11 6218
Heaven 2.1 1720

I mainly play Black Ops at 1920x1080. Max GPU useage doesnt go above 70% Visually the game looks stunning :) Max temps also for my PC is max 68 degrees when playing BOs
Max temp during benchmarking was 77degrees fan 58%

Worth the money i paid for my 580

No problems with mine. I had issues with my CPU temps when adding the card and my overclock but to be fair it's not really the cards fault!

I've had one crash in about 60 hours of gaming but that is while I'm still playing around with overclocks and stuff.

Do you mean that the card finally allowed your CPU to be utilized to 100% in games which caused it to overheat or that the card filled the case with lot's of heated air which raised the CPU temps ?

Well the card runs cooler than my previous cards so I'd say it was the first thing you said :D

anyone know when we can expect these in mass supply? im looking for the asus(no bright stickers ty) but everywhere says things like 4 available in 1-2 months or pre order.

im willing to pay £400 for one but it would be nice if they could go down to £379 in a few weeks time.

any chance ?

default volts mate? whats ur case like also? i would be looking at overvolting one to about 80c temps wise as personally i think thats fine for 24/7 gaming.nvidia state they do run hot and id hope with that id get 950core is that realistic? the case will be a 912 plus with 2 200mm fans @ 105cfm 1x140mm 79cmf 1x120mm 70cmf

Next Xmas probably, with VAT going up and no sign of a replacement, supply will stay low and prices up I expect :) Cheap power can be had from a 480 or two.

Andi.

The only time eitherof my 580's have ever crashed has been when I have overclocked them too far. So long as I keep the core and memory at 930MHz/4400MHz or lower they have been completely stable. Just make sure your PSU is sufficient to handle all of your components. A top end graphics card deserves a top end PSU.

Only had my 580 a couple of weeks but no probs so far.

One thing i will say though, having re-installed and tried well over 100 games i have seen no real performance improvement over my old 5870 Vapor-X. Anyone thinking of coming from a 5870 to a GTX 580 should seriously re-consider. Not saying it's a bad card though :)

Hi.

To achieve 890 core etc i increased the volts to 1100 up 50 from the standard 1050 for my Palit GTX 580 version. I didnt want to push my card any further as i completed what i set out to do. Max volts on my palit via afterburner is 1137, so a little headroom to break into the 900s LOL

My PC was built using the Antec 300 case, plenty of fans and good airflow.

For gaming sessions i sometimes (using Afterburner) have my card running 835 Core 1670 Shader and 2100 Memory, its extremely stable for Black Ops.

IMO all cards O/C differently, i set out to achieve best possible benchmark scores for me, whilst my GTX 580 was new, i was extremely pleased with my scores, and left a little bit of room to potentially explore further in the future :)

In which case, and with all due respect, your system fails. Hard! ;)
