Advice needed from serious newbie
Hi - i'm really not sure what to go for a Home Cinema or a Receiver - any advice would be really*appreciated

Sony DAV-SA30 DVD players and 5.1 Surround sound and speakers Home Cinema system

PS3 *Blueray / media system (HDMI and optical) output

LCD Full HD 1080i LG TV*(HDMI /Scart*(HDMI and optical)*output

Topfield 5800 Hard drive recorder - not HD *(Scart*and optical)*output

*

The Sony DAV-SA30 has recently starting crackling and also plays really poor sound quality on DVDs , stangely CDs are ok - i presume something on the board has gone - the crackling is heard in all speakers *- ive checked speaker connections and they all seem fine - presuming the dvd amplifier is shot away - i think i have a choice - tell me if i'm wrong

*

1 - purchase a replacement Home Cinema System - if this is the case looking at my HDMI and optical outputs what setup and system would you recommend?

2 - i purchase a receiver only - then i assume my 6 sony speakers - each 44 watts and woofer 80 watts used with it

*

Am i missing any thing?

*

What would you recommend?*

*

Thanks in advance**

Budget £100 to £300*

Onkyo HT-S3305 or 5305, whichever you can afford. New receiver and speakers all in one go, they're great kits for the money.

depends on your budget, if its low then as above.
if you have some xmas cash to spend then a Onkyo TX SR608 + Q Acoustics 2000 5.1 package is mint.

edit: oh its low. then as above.

Thanks for all the replies so far - it seems a receiver is the way forward then

Am i right in thinking HDMI is all thats needed to pass quality visual and audio around - so i can forget worrying about optical apart from with my topfield that uses scart?

The 5305 is on the jungle river place for £300. Its what I will be getting soon.

Where is the Jungle river site - can't find it on a google search

Can i ask what is the difference between a Onkyo HT-S3305 and the 5305
As they look identical to an untrained eye/ear

The 5305 has a powered sub wheras the 3305 is a passive one. Apparently a powered sub is better (dont ask me why, I have just been reliably informed buy the resident OcUK audiophiles :)), and seen as they can both be had for £300 its better to get the better one.

And due to rules on this forum I cannot link to or mention commpetitor sites, so just think of an online store named after a massive river that flows through a jungle, in the South America area, and you will figure it out ;)

ok i get the idea of the site now!
I actually managed to purchase the 3305 as i found it on a site reduced to £199 (33% off)

I reckon thats a real bargain there was £30 shipping but it still came out at 228.90 with vat

Thanks for all the great advice

S3305 bundle for £199 is a massive bargain. I paid £279.99 about 5 weeks ago on the highstreet which was also a bargain.

I'm really pleased with mine, it takes a while to get it configured correctly, but once done its very impressive - especially at this price point.

Sounds like you got it from the same place as me. Had mine for a few weeks and im more than happy with it so far. You wont be disappointed with it.

My mate bought a 3305 last sunday (along with a new Samsung LED which he has to wait until wednesday for a replacement as it was sold to us faulty, don't believe the hype, avoid Richer Sounds!).

Very good system for the price, only thing I would say is the centre and front speakers aren't brilliant but for all the features the sound is incredible for the price.
