Sandy Bridge to be blown out of the water by Ivy Bridge

Plus:

The Ivy Bridge technology is expected to hit the shelves in late 2011 or early 2012, with the latter being more likely.

Given the usual delays it might even be later so I wouldn't like to be waiting for it.

As with all Tech if you wait for the next best thing with if just around the corner you'll never buy anything ...

Well at this rate, it looks like I may have to wait till 2025 before spending my monies.

This technology moving on malarky is sooo confusing.

WTF do I do!?!?!?!?!? :eek::eek::eek:

It seems that the new Sandy Bridge chips will be outdated and out gunned in less than a year. So is it best waiting till the end of 2011 for Ivy Bridge?

Check this out:

http://www.techeye.net/chips/intels-ivy-bridge-will-rule-the-chip-roost

"The 22 nanometer Ivy Bridge is a die shrink of the 32 nanometer Sandy Bridge, but it's looking to be a big improvement, packing double the shaders and DirectX 11 support, along with a major boost to speed and bandwidth."

Looks like its just talking about the built in graphics, ivy bridge will have 24 shaders to the current clarkdale and sandy bridge's 12. Big whoop.

I'm yet to be convinced that sandy bridge is an upgrade from Bloomfield, and I'm sure it's worse than Gulftown. So I'm inclined to believe it's already out gunned by the previous generation, let alone the next one.

Even when Sandybridge arrives next weekend, it may be a case 3-6 months later AMDs bulldozer may proove better.

3-6 months after that its Sandybridge highend chipset/chips arriving...

3-6 months after that Ivy bridge arrives and destroys Sandybridge.

Really just goes to show there is no good time to ever upgrade since the technology changes within months anyhow.

Im still glad I skipped the current Core i5/i7 chips....

Core 2 was a great time to upgrade, as was Barton.

i was happy with my p4 2.4ghz and ati x800xt till a couple of years ago, and missed the core 2 duo and core 2 quads......i went straight into the core i7 range with the 920 and a gtx280......2 years on and its still a very good computer...ive changed the case, keyboard and mouse, monitor , cpu cooler and added 6gig of dominator ram.......so overall 2 years on its still serving me well and i dont intend on upgrading till my needs fit it nescesary.....

i could buy a gtx580......but arent going to as my gtx280 plays all the games i play very well......

so looks like i possibly will not see sandybridge or ivy bridge anyway......

happy new year to all and happy computing.....

Looks like Intel are sprinting at the moment. If you're looking at the long term then there really is no optimum time to upgrade. I think my i5 750 will last me a while yet though.

best is to stay out of it all unless you personally see dramatic changes in how you use your computer in terms of slow-down. People often are dragged into the whole benchmark score scenario when in real world usage the numbers cannot be noticed.

Save a tonne of money this way :) Although I know the upgrade bug is hard to shift.

This time next year we'll be posting the same tread about new technology that'll destroy Ivy Bridge. The only reason I'm thinking of upgrading to Sandy Bridge is because I have a desktop from 2005. 6 years old almost.

But if I did go for SB, I'd plan on keeping it for another 5-6 years before upgrading again. I mean how many games/applications etc will get full use of 6-8 cores? At least when Windows 8 is out then maybe an upgrade but I don't see the point in bashing SB because something in a years time will beat it.

I'm waiting. My core i7 920 D0 @ 4ghz is more than enough and eats anything I throw at it. I think it's disgusting how intel are implementing a new socket for sandy bridge.

No thanks Sandy...

youre not wrong with things changing all the time ,not worth waiting for the next big thing time to short ,just brought a gh2 body knowing full well next year they will release plans for the gh3 ,mind you there getting more like computers as well got 3 processors in it .cameras top end ones used to have expectancy of up to 10 years .
