So

Pay as you go insurance, I would imagine for people with a 2nd fun car and do a very small amount of miles in them would seem pretty ideal?

Now they fit a tracker to the car don't they? to see how many miles you do.

Maybe this is a stupid question but do they monitor your speed? and if you speed say, regularly, report you to the authorities?

And if they don't, what companys are recommended for it?

Cheers,
Jake

I thought it was just a mileage tracker, be interesting if it does log speed / times of travel etc though.

Don't most insurance companies offer temporary/short term cover on another car for a nominal fee?

I understood that is what many people this with track day/weekend cars?

No reason why the tracking device can't monitor all those parameters, doubt they are all uploaded to HQ but i bet if you crash the last x mins of driving will be saved.

Most of these pay and go insurance schemes are rubbish, you have to have a stupid box fitted and as most of these policies are tailored for little billy and his 1997 Saxo, you'll probably end up paying £45 every time you drive at x time in the evening. A limited mileage policy from the likes of HIC would be a better bet.

Sorry, my FUD-o-meter just went into the red while reading that :p You may be totally correct but the way you word it makes it sound like you're not totally sure :o

That post was based on when I was looking into a pay as you go policy when I just passed my test. The only way you can implement a pay as you drive service is by having a box fitted in the car, surely?

I know that the company I work for offer this and I'm pretty sure we don't use a tracker but as for value for money, it really is all down to your usage.

They monitor the milage that you do and also the times that you drive. i was going to go with one as it was a lot cheaper for first year insurance, but the peak hours where going to be the main hours i would be driving. also wouldn't have been aloud to drive betreen 11:30pm and 5:30AM. Although not all are the same.

they offer discounts to people who use companies like "coverbox" because as mention they have a greater control over the use of your car, the main restrictions are mileage and driving times, its a strange set up if im honest as i can see the benefits, they give you a really competative price however if you go over your mileage or go out when your not suppose to and you end up paying more and sometimes a lot more than what you expect
