I play games and listen to music quite a lot at night, so usually just use in-ear headphones.

I was looking at something like the Logitech G35 as their entire G range has been extremely good from what I've seen, but I know nothing about headphones.

What would you recommend? Budget is ~£70

They'll be used for gaming and music. A mic would be useful on there.

Thanks.

Hmm, not sure whether to go for the Goldring NS1000 or not. I really would like to have the virtual surround some headsets offer as I'll be gaming with them as well.

I assume the Goldring ones are just superior stereo headphones?

Well with Dolby Headphone enabled and virtual 7.1 you get as good if not better virtual surround sound. Yes they are superior quality sound but with a good card and mic hands down beat any gaming headset.

You can get Dolby Headphone on most of the Xonar line of soundcards. That's just about the best type of virtual surround available until you spend silly money. It works exceptionally well with the NS1000s, giving better positioning than any dedicated gaming headset I've heard.

Would I need a dedicated sound card to make the most of these headphones?

I guess Dolby Headphone is all just software based then, so you don't actually need anything special to have 7.1 headphones?
