Decided to cancel my order for the nvidia 580 gtx if i can get 2 x 460's or other and a power supply sufficient to run them no problem for under 420 pound. Can anyone help as i have no clue what psu to get. my coolermaster m700 isnt up for the job ive been told. so unsure if its possible to do this on my budget. Im looking at the EVGA 460's 1gb versions. Can anyone help please

Your PSU will power 460 SLI no problem, a 460 pulls 155 watts in furmark, in gaming it's like 130 watt, so your PSU is more than powerful enough for 460 SLI.

Who the hell said that isnt up to the job ? Send em to me : P

Your PSU will be absolutely fine with plenty of wattage to spare.

your both saying the coolermaster m700 is good enough for sli of 2 460's? if thats the case what do i do about the connections. on the modulay psu i have theres room for 2 pci e connectors but id need 4? will it run 2 500 series cards? was looking on ebay, would i get something like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-pin-PCIe-to...191403996&po=&ps=63&clkid=6062142577899031664

Not totally sure about the 460 but my XFX 5870 doesnt work with a splitter: needs 4 actual connectors. So obviously an upgrade MAY be neccessary if anyone could tell you of the 460 would allow for a divider/splitter/adapter/thingymajig.

oh right thats not good news then. unsure as to what im going to do now then. if i do need a new psu as a splitter wont work what psu will do? i need one with 4 pci e connectors on i think. gutted i cant use a splitter. or does someone know otherwise?

Dont panic like I said I may be wrong and I certainly dont claim to be an expert on these things. And if you stick to what you said: upgrading in the future then you may be able to afford a new PSU then ; )

what about running 2 470's instead with a spilitter? do you know why your splitter attempt failed??
ive looked and i think im gonna go with the EVGA 470'S x2 instead of the 460's. and get a splitter too. do you guys think that will work, i want to order now. just cancelled other order for my 580

Did'nt your cards come with molex to pci-e adapters? If so use one of the psu's pci-e plugs on each card with the second power plug coming from the adapters.

you know im not sure now youve said that. ill have a look. right guys ive ordered 2 x EVGA 1gb Gtx 460's as i think that will do me fine. May add a new psu and 3rd card at a later point. thanks for all the help. finally got an order in thats in stock lol

I have run 2x GTX460's and an i7 @ 4GHz off o Corsair 520W PSU. You 700W Coolermaster will have no problems.

Are you serious? If your are then I am :D:D

Also, it will power it fine like everyone else has said. I think GTX460's come with a molex to 6pin anyway :)

well if it comes with a molex to 6 pin s a bonus. i bought one anyways just incase. thanks for all your help guys, i hope to see a good improvement over my nvidia 295 to my dual 460's. if it all works fine which im sure it will i might add another one in a few months, thanks again.

Right ive just looked through my cables and my psu. The 2 cards im ordering need 2 6 pin connections each. My psu has only 2 green 6 pin connections. I have 6 pin to 6 pin cables. But thats all. i did order one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310267668254 but now im thinking about it that cable will let me plug one of my 6 to 6 pin into it and then it will power 1 card. Am i going to need another one of them to fully power the other card. Or can i use a 6 pin to 6 pin to power 1 of the connectors, and then maybe use a 6 pin to white 4 pin power connector to power the other connection on that card. If anyone understands what im going on about please let me know what im missing, thanks guys im really lost

hope some one can help, sorry for double posting, dont know how to get my message back up to the new ones. please delete this if inappropriate.

god knows on that mate, but im really lost with this psu cable thing haha. my cards should be here tuesday, you think i should order another one of those cables? what do u think

When I got my GTX 260 I got a molex to 2 Six pin adaptor and when I got my GTX460 I got a molex to 1 Six pin adaptor.

yeah radar i do have a white 4 pin power to 6 pin adapter. thats was i was talking about. a cable like this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-x-4-Pin-Mol...uting_CablesConnectors_RL&hash=item5ade0f991b , this is what im unsure of, if i can power 1 of the 6 pin connectors direct from the psu can i just plug that connector into the card and use a power source from somewhere else into the molex. would that work. and ill use the splitter for the other card http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-pin-PCIe-du...raphics_Video_TV_Cards_TW&hash=item483d64e71e , so id plug my psu cable in to the power supply and into that splitter giving 2 connections for the other card. am i on the right lines?
