HTC Desire HD (Ace)

Oh and a word on the power button: it's placed on such a perfect angle on the rounded edge that you can hold the phone with 0% risk of accidentally tapping it, but if you need to tap it can 100% always get to it easily. It's a genius-ly precise bit of ergonomic design.

I second this.
If your looking at reviews on 3rd party sites you may find some that criticise the placement and use of the volume and power buttons,( they are the only buttons the rest is touch screen, which as far I can tell pretty much flawless.) Ignore them, as already said if it wasn't for the difference in colours you wouldn't even know they were there.

The DHD also feels like a more solid phone. Not heavy or anything like that. Just solid, like you know you have a high-end top quality phone. You can actually "feel" the difference in quality.

Two guys in the office have the Desire. The DHD puts it shame, Its sexier, the UI is so much better, Its clearer and nicer looking. You actually want to go through it and see everything there is. Not stop at what it was you were looking for. It makes the Desire look Out-Of-Date in almost everyway. In my opinion anyway. (They may actually be a bit biased)

Hmm I must admit you're helping me move towards the HD now. :) Especially as it does seem more technically advanced inside. Might check out the rooting scene for the HD and see what that's like. :)

You wont regret getting a DHD. I don't think anyone in this thread has. The only complaint is the wait from providers.

Haven't rooted mine. Don't really see the point. It's more than fine as it is straight out of the box. I'm actually glad I waited and got the DHD instead of getting the Desire.

There isn't really one at the moment. There was a temp root which stopped working after the last OTA update a few days ago but I'm not sure what's going on at XDA regarding a perm root. But after 3 months of having one, screenshots aside, I can honestly say I don't miss rooting/using custom ROMs at all.

There's been permanent root, S-off and custom recovery since November, and all the custom ROMs now available.

If not, just sign up with Lloyds. I signed up for mobile insurance specifically and wasn't a previous customer. I don't use the account at all, just transfer the money required for the Silver Account via DD every month and that's it :).

Just wanted to say a quick thanks, as upon enquiring it turns out my bank already provided this, so I'm set now, at no extra charge. W00t!

Got mine yesterday :)

Only had a short play on it over wifi, as i'm waiting for the network to be connected. Seems a massive step up from my Hero.

Ah had a weird moment yesterday. Had just been messing about with my DHD, when I accidentally hit the voice activation search thing, so cue some family fun of seeing how well it coped with the Scottish accent (actually not to bad as long as we spoke a bit slower).

Anyhoo at the end of it, my Gran was saying it was pretty scary how technology works nowadays and we muttered something about the terminator, which led me then to say to my phone 'activate skynet'. 2 minutes later was browsing the internet and it suddenly refused to load anything so restarted the phone so find the SD card had corrupted. [tinfoilhat] I think my phone became self aware and found itself disgusted with the world and tried to wipe itself from existence.[/tinfoilhat] :p

So yeah weird coincidence, thankfully aside from a few random apps and a handful of music didn't really have anything on the SD card so nothing was really lost. Quite annoying though, just don't mention skynet to your phone.

OK. Cheers.

Okey dokes. :) My mental problem with the Desire v Desire HD is that its a replication of the problem I had last time. HTC Magic or HTC Hero. I went for the Magic because it looked nicer and not the Hero because it was more technically advanced. :p And its happening again. I look at the Desire and love it, then I look at the Desire HD and appreciate it being more advanced but don't love the look of it as much. However that is slowly changing thanks to the replies of some awfully helpful replies in here. :)

mines showing the map now in sense, but its showing me in the sea, off the coast of Africa. I'm pretty sure that I'm not in the sea.

The long/lat is just zero'd because it hasn't got any data yet. Try pressing refresh above the map.

its not a working button on mine, it does nothing (certainly doesn't refresh the google maps image)

TBH the whole thing still seems borked as nothing else works, ring phone returns a "Unable to connect to your phone to make it ring." message, cant lock either and have no intention if hitting erase phone as sods law dictates that that will work flawlessly (until needed).

HTC Sense 2.0 bloatware at its finest :)

One of the reasons why I never got a DesireHD and I keep my trusty Desire, the Sense software on the Desire is just right. Adds missing features that stock Android doesn't have but doesn't add all this HTC bloat that doesn't really work that well.

Guys what program do you use to convert videos for your HTC Desire HD? I'm trying to find one but no luck. Preferably want one that can convert to the highest quality possible for the HTC DHD.

Thanks

I use doubleTwist for that (desktop and mobile app) as it syncs with iTunes. It's nice and easy but probably not the best for quality.

I'm really tempted to get this. Has anyone gone from an iPhone to this, was it an upgrade or more of a sideward step?

I've gone from a normal phone + Ipod touch (if that counts ?). There is no comparison imho. The DHD murders it in every dept, and I can finally say goodbye to the virus that is itunes.

Just a quicky, did the latest OTA update and now the weather linked to the clock is stuck on a location I haven't been in for quite some time and it won't change at all and its driving me nuts. It will sync flash with my actual current location then change to the location I was at a few days ago whilst listing it as current.

Anyone got any ideas how to fix it or what the issue is?

I OTA updated yesterday and since then the syncing symbol constantly keeps appearing on all data connections. The status drop down shows nothing is updating but something is busy as it is robbing battery life like mad!

What the hell is going on?!
