Missing Bristol woman confirmed murdered

He's been released on bail. If he turns out to be not guilty then the media owe him an enormous apology and a long hard look at how they report these cases.

Please see my earlier post (160) - I should definitely be a detective. I could have saved them 2 days investigation and a lot of police time and money - David Cameron would love me.

Indeed. Just read that on BBC News. Does that imply he's not guilty? After all if the Police could prove it was him they wouldn't let him go but charge him. And if they believed it was him but didn't have the evidence would they really want to bail him?

I think it means they have serious doubts. They'd surely not release anyone in a case like this if they had so much as an iota of proof that he was guilty.

Being released on police bail without being charged usually mean that they either have no evidence at all or the suspect is not guilty.

I still think the boyfriend did it regardless of his alibi.

That's what I'm thinking. And in a way he was too obvious a suspect, the way he "looked". So I guess the Police are back at square one which isn't too good a place to be considering the national focus the murder has had in the press.

they let him go on bail purely they dont have enough evidence to hold him longer. they had 2 full days to find evidence link him to the murder which was plenty of time. so it wasnt him

They would consult with lawyers from the CPS, they would suggest there isn't enough to charge him with. They could be waiting on forensic result. At the end of the day we can only guess.

yes but this is a high profile crime, the police would've got the forensic result very quick.

It's not that straightforward. For instance, blood searching takes hours, if not days (depending on how many things you are searching), and fibre searching takes a while too. A standard gel run is, I believe, about six hours these days, so DNA is a little slow too.

Looks like everyone is selling their story on the retired teacher.

Some of them are obsurd. A woman complaining he was "staring" at her in the library.

It has been said on news that they could have held him till Monday morning, dunno if that implies anything tho.

I suppose that they have consulted the CPS, don’t have enough evidence, been asked by his lawyer to release him and here we are. I bet this case will have a strange twist to it.

Here's another one:
the Daily Mail said:
Family friend and neighbour Isabel Jeffers, 72, recalled how in later life Jefferies used to post his washing from Bristol to his mother. ‘She used to throw it all straight into the machine and put it in the post back to him as soon as it was clean.'

According to Sky News He is still a suspect. If they had released Him without charge then obviously He is a free man. He could still be re-arrested at any time.

Whatever happened to the days when the Great British Eccentric was just, well, eccentric? Now they seem to be the Great British Murder Suspect. Still, it's a step up from people suspecting the boyfriend for no other reason than that he's the boyfriend.

For that matter, what happened to people remaining quiet until there was some actual real information?

Does anyone know
Were her body was found, did she have to walk that way to go home ?
Also
The stuff she bought from bargain booze, has that been found?

Red spot is the golf club, Longwood lane is to the right and down.

If she decided to walk towards Clevedon/Nailsea then where she was found found would have been the right direction.
