I've Come back to the 360 after 2 years out...not impressed!

So after two years out of the loop I thought I'd re-invest in a 360.

Firstly what's all this drab about the console being quiet? Still sounds like a aeroplane is setting off in my room at times.

I’m on my second 360 now, after purchasing one of the 60 gig models when they came out, specifically for HDMI, but sadly the console is as noisy as my original 20 gig jobbie – even installing to HD does nothing to quieten it down; that only removes the noise of the disc – does sweet FA for the fan noise!

In fact, of the ~10 360 consoles I’ve played on (mine and friends), they are all as noisy, so unless people are actively replacing their fans or have simply grown to accept the noise, then I don’t think you’ll ever find a 360 with an acceptable level of noise :(

My 360s is really quiet, cant hear it over the TV volume even when set lower at night time.
Maybe a dusty environment ? might be making the console heat up more = more fan spin.

You bought a 360 for first person shooters that is where you failed.
It does have good games but most of them are rpgs action or arcade.

I would recommend

shadow complex
splosion man
deadly premonition
Nier
Bayonetta

off the top of my head

All those multiple platform games, if you thought those were tosh then its no different on the other consoles. You need to play some 360 exclusives.

It's 5 year old technology, you can't expect much from that these days

MW

People seem to keep forgetting this important fact.
Also you got a 250gb 360 and are moaning about having to install games to reduce noise levels? What's the point of the hard drive if you don't install games onto it?
I think you're just moaning for the sake of moaning tbh.

I have the 4GB Slim version. Some games are very noisy but others are totally silent. I really need to get a HDD but they are so expensive at the moment.

I've had four Xbox 360s from launch model to slim which is what I've got now. The disc drives have always been loud. Even at other people's houses I've never come across one of these mythical quiet ones.

With regards to games I purchased Battlefield Bad Company 2 which I've been less than impressed with.

My friend lent me Modern Warfare 2, what the hell is up with this game? The map design on multiplayer is a joke, every building has about 12 windows and there's no way of playing the maps tactically. Half the time I spawn about 10 yards from the opposition?

I've been playing FIFA 11 a bit, but for my tastes it's far too arcady. What happened to the good old days of PES? I downloaded the demo for that and it feels like it's just trying to emulate FIFA.

Looking for a decent FPS on the 360? Call of duty 2 is amazing but unfortunately it's a little dated now, I've spent so many hours on that game that I'd rather not return to it. How is Call of Duty - World at War?

COD isn't supposed to be played tactically. Its an arcade shooter.

If you don't like Bad Company 2 there's not much hope for you as theres nothing that tactical on the xbox as most of the games are aimed at the casual gamer.

Not Like Arma or whatever on the PC. That sounds like more your thing.

If it's a new slim 360 it should be quiet disc spinning or not I can't remember hearing any significant sound. I hated MW2 personally, Black Ops is slightly better. BC2 is good, I think it's lacking the epic maps the BC1 had but I think there coming back with a map pack soon.

I'm looking forward to the new Bioshock/Elder scrolls and mass effect myself

To be honest, I think some of you are right, I probably AM moaning for the sake of it. I think the real issue is that I've been out of console gaming for so long that I pretty much suck at any game at the moment and am taking my frustrations out on the console.

I need to take games one at a time instead of playing countless games and hoping I'm instantly God at all of them.

Think I'll choose between GOW 2 and Rainbow 6 Vegas 2 and try and leave that game in my disk drive for at least a month.
