If China or Russia become militarily stronger than the west

For everyone saying that Russia don't have the economy to surpass the USA militarily, how about if the USA becomes weaker? no empire has ever lasted forever and the USA's economy isn't looking too healthy at the moment, they're even fighting a war of attrition in Afghanistan (and Iraq) like the Soviets did before their collapse.

Also if China took out the USA's aircraft carriers that alone would produce a massive shift of power worldwide, plus Russia have most of Eastern Europe by the balls with natural gas supplies.

LOL Russia knows Americas game, the yanks want to put up a missile defence shield but the Russians know that "Defence" can easily be "Attack". Like the DEFCON game just double click on the icon to make it attack lol. What where saying might not even be true! Russia\China might be putting on a show or a bluff so no one gets the wrong idea, I'm sure there's a lot more shiz going on behind the scenes. IMO there is still conflict between the American and Russia i.e the Russian spies in a dormant status in America.

The Chinese are well on their way to launch their aircraft carriers this year to ensure secure oil supply routers through the Indian Ocean. It's suggested by U.S. intelligence the first carriers will be for training purposes with domestically built full operational carriers being deployed by 2015.

Varyag is the name given for the first Chinese aircraft carriers. It was originally bought from Ukraine in 1998 for the intentions of setting up a gambling complex in the city of Macau. Later, the project was ceased by the government and used for the military. Varyag stretches over 300 meters and it's currently undergoing refit at the shipyard near the city of Dalian.

In March 2010, China announced an increase in military budget, an increase of 7.6% from the previous year. The U.S. estimated the Chinese have spent over $150 billion in developing military technologies within the year.

As far as technologies go for planes, the Chinese released their 5th gen fighter J-20 this year. Rumour has it, the plane is designed to take on the air superiority focused F-22 Raptor. However, the F-22 has come to an end in production and according to expert analyst Richard Aboulafia, the J-20 is superior than the F-35.

Anyway, in a nutshell, China is no joke and if you think the Chinese military are still using swords and Kung Fu, you need to have a reality check.

lol they can just simply walk to another country, there numbers are too many. If they probably want to, they could create a flood by telling all their citizens and military personnel to pee towards the country they wanted to flood.

And a couple of upgraded Kuznetsov aren't really going to trouble a single Nimitz are they.

If the European Union eventually creates a European Army, would that not be a big shift in power? There's a lot of military oomph in the member states combined.

I imagine you would drastically increase your military spending whilst deployed in a foreign country. Chart is dumb.

At the lowest points in the last 60 years it's still $350+ billion in today's dollars.

If there is one thing Americans absolutely cherish, it's militarism. It's almost religious.

If that happened the EU would enter into an arms race with the Russians. They threw a fit over the missile defence shield the US wanted to implement. Imagine how they would react if a technologically superior military just formed on their doorstep. It would shift power but Russia's mistrust of the west would increase making them more paranoid.

Well just look at the number of wars Americans have participated in.

WW1
WW2
The Korean War
Vietnam War
Desert Storm
Operation Enduring Freedom
Iraqi Freedom

Will never happen though, never ever (in the sense you're talking about. We already have a UN style military organisation though). Whereas there is a possibility of China becoming militarily stronger dependent on how you measure it.

Well that is pretty much what the U.N. is.

No it's not, nothing like it.

There is only one real superpower and it has been the same one for millenia. Europe.

People like china start messing about with world domination, the European nations combined will protect their own interests first. War in Europe is all we need be concerned with on a global platform.

That's possibly true, if we're speaking about empire building and what not. However, I can't see that being a possibility. The requirement for resources is going to be far more important and when that day comes then the idea of Europe being a superpower (one I doubt anyway) will be gone.

Hilarious. What is Europe going to do? The only 2 viable countries with military strength in Europe are U.K. and France.
