Hi there :)

Im new here so first of all hi to all of you at Overclockers forums :)
I do apoligise if this is posted in the wrong section but I felt it was adequite here :)

I have ordered a 'Corsair H70' Cpu cooler for my AMD 955 Quad Core ( stock 3.2ghz), But it still hasnt arrived so as you can tell I am very excited :P

I just wanted to know if any of you on here have a H70, and could share with me, what your idle and load temps are ( overclocked or not is helpful :) ) I have a Asus crosshair IV 890fx motherboard in the post coming to and wanted to hear some thoughts on what I should be able to overclock my 955 to ( I have heard the 955 overclocks better than the 965?) and what sort of temps I can expect from the H70 which is a watercooled heatsink, and any tips for overclocking and cooling if any :)
co
One More Question though, how good is the H70 compared to a full on custom watercoole system? what makes a custom one watercooling better and cooler? considering that the H70 is techinically watercooling to? Sorry if these sound like noob questions.

Thanks guys for any answers! Sorry if posted in wrong section!

I'd be intrested in this as well as i've just got the 955 myself. not overclocking just yet due to budget but would be good to know

Hopefully someone with this cooler shall be able to shed some light onto it. Of course I did My researd before hand and stuff, but Im interested to know what the cooler is like in a real world scenario and what anyone here has there cpu overclocked to with this cpu cooler and how much cooler it is. considering its anywhere between £70-£90 depending where you shop im expecting high hopes :) Wanted to get myself involved in watercooling to but dont have the money and wanted to try something more entry level first :P

He has a X6 1090T at 20c. Err... I was so sure he was using the H70...

REVIEW:

I was extremely impressed with the overall performance of the Corsair H70; it far exceeded my expectations. I was a bit skeptical about setting up both fans as intake (like the instructions suggested), expecting to see significant rises in system temperatures; but that wasn't the case at all. I lost essentially 2 exhaust fans in the H70 setup by have to switch the rear 120mm to an intake fan, and losing out on the side-panel fan completely because the H70 radiator is too large. Now my only fan exhausting the system in the 200mm tri-cool blowing out the top; yet my system temps have remained the exact same, and even drop in some tests.

The H70 dropped my idle temps by about 5C all around, even considering the substantial system overclock. Where the H70 really impressed me was under torture test & benchmarking load; dropping CPU/Core temps by a minimum of 10C. Running OCCT with the H70 the CPU never touched 40C, an impressive 13C lower than stock cooler and settings. Even running Prime95 (not included above) the H70 kept the CPU a cool 40C max; while the stock cooler hit as high as 58C under the same torture test. 3DMark Vantage saw a temperature drop of 10C, while achieving 5000 more on the CPU score (40196 Stock, 45289 OC).

Call of Duty: Black Ops was used to test real-world gaming performance. It was run on EXTRA with 16X AA, absolutely maxed out settings. In both cases the game ran flawlessly; the H70 with the overclock on both the CPU & GPU achieved about 2 more FPS on average at about 5C cooler temps (average FPS 77, max 93).

its a good cooler and pretty much sealed unit for wanna be watercoolers

Look on the Tube theres loads of reviews

Thats one of the reasons why I thought I would buy this cooler, the fact that it is completly sealed and it seemed like a great way to get into watercooling with a decent price zone too. What would you mean by a wanna be watercooler btw? :) And looks like cmoney has beat me to it :P

@ cmoney

Those are insane temps, I know that Amd 6 core cpus run very cool as they are, but those temperatures are insanely low. I doubt he was using a h70, using vantage or playing a cpu hungry ( *cough* un-optimised game *cough* ) like call of duty blacks and getting under 40c load at a overclock at 4ghz? thats the sort of thing I would expect from a highend custom built watercooling system. As long as I can get my 955 to 4ghz and keep it under 60c on load then I will be happy. I have a storm scout case by the way so case airflow isnt an issue. Still hasnt arrived yet, Im expecting it maybe tommoro its already a few days late, apparently parcel force has it being held somewhere to get rid of backlog, so frustrating lol!

Is there anyone on here that has this cooler hooked up with any amd quad core and could give some info :)

Sorry for double post. Just had My H70 and Asus corsshair IV formula 890fx motherboard arrive yesterday :) Im going to start putting it together at around maybe 6:00am ish, do some overclocks and let you guys know what My temps are :)

My plan is to get to a stable 4ghz with a temp on load at around 60c. Anyone got any tips about what voltage settings to use? Also when I overvolt the cpu that affects the ram to right? so I should lower the ram from 1600mhz to something like 1336mhz and make the timings higher keeping the ram more stable? I have g-skill ripjaws 1600mhz 7-8-7-24 timings i beleive this ram has.

I Should be able to figure it out anyway but this will be the biggest overclock I have done, Im looking forward to seeing the results :P

Getting 4GHz out of a 955 will be v.difficult unless you have a really good chip.

Most 955's will top out about 3.8.

I would be happy with that much of a overclock, but maybe I can get the 955 to 4ghz :P

The cooler was a little fiddly to get in had to move top fan to optical drive bay to act as a intake fan. The instructions where clear enough but when putting the circle bit on the cpu it states that you have to turn itright, when actually you turn the whole thing right until it matchews these sticky out bits of the plastic that youi then screw in to tighten. Anyway I havnt been able to do much testing but here is prime 95 temps running for 12 hours. remember thermal paste needs time to kick in.

Idle 32-34c on load prime 95 for 12 hours 44c.

at stock 3.2 on 955 so I will do some overclocking soon and so how high I can overclock it :)

I just got this today the H70 runs great with the amd 955be hit 59c with 4ghz oc no problem 59c was the max temp running 3d mark vantage and running prime 95 was the same, very pleased with this, big step up from my chill tec black which was the same price and worked like ass. My system set up is amd 955be 4ghz on a msi 890gxm-g65 with 1600mhz ocz reaper ram 8gb with a gtx 470 oc to 800/1600/1900 with voltage mod. It does pretty damn good with games, not a huge difference than 3.7ghz that is was currently at, had to raise the cpu voltage to 1.55 from 1.40 nb to 1.34 and ram is at 1.70, had to bump up nb from 1.30 processor idles at 40c instead of 38c when on 3.7ghz
