I am right in saying that with this type of ticket I can travel on any off-peak train on my outwards journey on the specified date and return on any off-peak train within a month.

Trains are southwest trains I think.

Just wanted to double check because in my confirmation email it seems to have given me specific train times.

knowing the train companies these days, your ticket is only valid at the times they say between the listed stations, any deviation will result in insane fines

I would have said it needed to be an open ticket as well, but the SW trains website does state that an Off Peak Return may be used on ANY offpeak train.

If you have specific times you have to travel at those times. If you go into the station and use the ticket machines you can get an open return so you can go on the day it was bought and return any time within a month. Can be more expensive.

This is just my experience though.

If it's an 'off peak day return' then the return has to be used on the day printed on the ticket. If it's an 'off peak return' then you can use the return ticket within one month of the date printed on the ticket. Both after 9.30am.

The confirmation email will just use the train times that you used to buy the ticket - you don't have to travel at those times.

Just watch out - if you reserve a seat on either of the times then you do have to use that train! If you choose not to reserve a seat then you can catch any train on the day, as long as it is an off-peak one.

No you don't, it's just a seat reservation.

Normally the outbound train journey has to be on the train booked (although that is questionable) but the return ticket is any train within 30 days, with or without the reservation. The reservation is just incase you do actually want to book a seat.
