What would be best.. a 2nd 5870(watercooled), a new 5970 or .. something else?

Ive just upgraded to an i7 and a new mobo. I was thinking about upgrading my gpu next. Only problem is there isnt enough room on the motherboard to have two 5870's and not have heat problems.

Which would be the best thing to do for a next upgrade (in april/may) for a budget of around £350 (400 at a push)

1: a second 5870 and get a small watercooling setup just to cool the gpu's (£200 for the 5870 + £120 for the Water set up. Total approx £320)
2: Sell my 5870 and get a 5970 altho ive heard there noisey and produce a lot of heat and arnt as good as 5870Cf
3: Sell my 5870 when the next gen of nvidia/ATI cards and hope theres one that comes out which is as strong as crossfired 5870's with less heat.

Sorry for all the questions ive posted in the last few days lol >< Just trying to find the best set up ;)

Question here is why do you want to upgrade?

I understand about the 'hunger' to have the latest tech ect..... hell I want stuff I dont really need all the time, but eventually I realise that what I got is perfectly fine for now etc...

From what I understand you'v got a core i7 based system with a 5870.

If this is true, I think your sitting pretty. A GTX 570 or a 6970 are only maybe at the absolutle maximum 15 - 20% better performers (if that).......

5870 is still a bloody great card. I anticipate keeping mine untill Windows 8 comes out in 2012.... new DX revision then as well.

In all honesty there is no card at present that is worth upgrading too considering the costs.

Only option for you is to wait for next Nvidia / ATI refresh.

But be warned, by then, we will be maybe only 6 months away from Windows 8 and no doubt we will be needing to upgrade to DX12 gpu's!

Best is to be content with what you got, and like me look forward to upgrading once Windows 8 and DX12 is here.

Im sorry if this isnt the answer you sought, but im giving it to you as it is.

Again exactly the same as me.

An SSD is the last peice of the jigsaw which would improve me system.

But do I really need one??

I have been looking but for the price, even tho I got the money, I cant really justify it.

Im planing a full upgrade when Windows 8 comes around which is slated for some time in 2012.... at least I think from memory anyway.

If you want to upgrade now, then sell your 5870 and get a GTX 570 or even better a GTX 580!

Cheaper route you could explorer is crossfire or sli...... something like two 6950's would be killer...

Me? Iv had enough of multi card setup a would rather get a single powerfull gpu.

A little chart for you, over simplified but in the right ball park:

Im also only speculating that with Windows 8 will be a DX refresh..... but considering Microsoft have recently been making noises about how Win 8 is going to be pc gaming focused, I wouldnt be suprised if they anounced DX12... or DX11.5 etc...
