Hey guys, as you can tell i'm new to these forums, I've been looking for a reasonably priced gaming computer and am looking at spending aroud 400-500 pounds on it, I already have the case and 700/800w psu(Can't remember which wattage it is :O)

I'm looking for about a tb hardrive- saw a nice western digital one for about 60-70 quid
I am not totally sure how fast my computer will be able to be, but i want to be able to upgrade it in future.

Perhaps a Gigabyte X58 Usb3 motherboard?

with 400-500 to spend on just,

CPU
RAM
Motherboard
Harddisk
Graphics Card
Optical Drive

Then you should easily manage to afford the new Sandy bridge stuff released on the 9TH

Unless of course you need an operating system too?

We have an old copy of xp lying around someplace, would this sandybridge stuff still be compatible with XP?
And how much Ram would i be looking for? I was looking for 4-8 Gb

Yes it will work with XP, its just that you wont get DirectX11 graphic effects with a new card, untill you upgrade the operating system later on.

But with the amount of games out and from what I have seen so far, your hardly missing out.

Intel i5 2500k - Roughly £160
Asus P8P67 Pro - Roughly £140
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 - £120
Corsair XMS3 4GB ( 2x2GB ) - £44
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB - £40

Total : £504.

I could be wrong with the Sandy Bridge prices though :p

It does look good :O

How much cheaper are pre-owned components?

Well you got along way to go before you get access to the members market.

you need 250posts and 90days registration time, theres some good stuff for sale, and I would only buy from there, infact I have many times, avoid fleebay like the plague.

So, it's time to play the waiting game...
*Evil laugh*

Personally with that budget I'd look at getting an AMD Phenom II X4 and Windows 7 build or waiting a few weeks and buying an i5 1156 as prices may come down after the release of Sandy Bridge.

Hmmm, lots of choices and considerations.

I think i'm gonna go for the SB i5 2500k, a matching p67 motherboard(Not sure which, perhaps gigabyte p67a-ud7?)
4gb ram
1tb hd
Normal old disc drive
Gfx card? (I'm still not certain what to do about this)-Could somebody explain?

Explain what exactly? if you want to be playing games at high resolutions with all the settings on max to get the full "eye candy" then a dedicated gpu is needed.

Or do you just want to know which is best for around £100-120?
